The posting
Larkmead is seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to lead on curriculum and teaching.
This is a unique opportunity to work with an existing Headteacher and experienced Senior Leadership Team.
Larkmead is a 6FE secondary school with a growing Sixth Form, situated in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The school has been judged Good by Ofsted in three successive inspections, most recently in March 2024, and is now embarking on the next stage of its improvement journey, with the ambition to move closer to Strong.
Our ethos is simple but powerful:
One community. Individual minds. Creating futures.
We are a happy, inclusive and aspirational school where every student matters. We combine high expectations with strong pastoral care, positive relationships and a commitment to ensuring every young person can achieve their full potential.
The opportunity
As Deputy Headteacher, you will work alongside the existing Senior Leadership Team to provide inspirational leadership and clear strategic direction across the school.
The Deputy Headteacher, under the direction of the Headteacher, will:
- Ensure the school’s ambitious curriculum intent and implementation are embedded securely and consistently across the school.
- Ensure curriculum sequencing and structure supports learning, knowledge retention and success over time
- Develop teaching and learning to meet our ambitions for students and staff, creating learners in line with the Larkmead Promise and Ofsted Strong criteria
- Ensure all teachers use assessment effectively to have a sustained impact on students’ progress
- Support and challenge teachers and subject leaders so that outcomes for students are consistently strong, with positive progress for all groups across the school
- Ensure curriculum leaders work effectively as a team, supporting and challenging each other to share good practice and look outside of Larkmead for effective models and strategies.
- Lead the school with clarity and confidence when deputising for the Headteacher
Please note that this is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the role. It is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the Deputy Headteacher will carry out. The postholder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as directed by the Headteacher.
