The posting
We are seeking to appoint an Education Welfare & Safeguarding Officer to join our team. The position requires a candidate with previous experience in a similar role or someone who has worked within a crossover agency, such as social work. You will work collaboratively with a range of colleagues but day to day, you must be able to work independently and be able to prioritise your workload and adjust to the ever changing demands of the school day. The role is both rewarding and challenging, it includes helping students and their families commit to improving attendance, which at times is met with resistance and has to be escalated through legal proceedings. A knowledge of the attendance framework would be a distinct advantage.
Another aspect of the role is safeguarding. Working alongside our Designated Safeguarding Lead and her team, you will be involved in the collection, reporting and documenting of information and concerns.
The successful candidate will need to:
- have relevant experience
- be caring and compassionate
- be extremely organised
- have meticulous attention to detail
- be discreet with highly sensitive information
Please read the attached information pack for further details including the job description, person specification and covering letter.
Benefits of working at Priestlands include:
- Free on-site car park
- Friendly and sociable colleagues
- Two week Autumn Half Term
- Enrolment in and generous contribution to one of the UK’s largest public sector pension schemes; LGPS
- Eligible for reduced rate membership at NFDC leisure centres
- Free and confidential Employee Assistance programme offering advice on a range of areas including well-being, housing and financial matters
- Free and confidential access to Europe's largest online GP service
- Free eye sight test every 2 years
- Professional development opportunities for all staff
- Affordable on-site canteen
The post is for a total of 35 hours per week, 8.30am-4.00pm Monday to Friday which includes a 30 minute unpaid break. You will receive your salary in 12 equal payments. The post is for 38 working weeks per year (term time only), but you will be paid for 43.60 weeks of the year to include holiday pay. The nature of the contract does mean that you are unable to take time off whilst the school is open.
References will be usually taken up prior to interview; if you currently work in a school, please ensure one of your references is from your current Headteacher. You will be required to provide appropriate evidence of identity and qualifications to support other pre-employment checks which will be undertaken on the successful candidate for this role, including: your right to work in the UK, a confidential health declaration, an online search of your name in line with government guidance on Keeping Children Safe in Education, and a DBS application.
