One-Year Temporary Leadership Opportunity | Year 5 Teaching | TLR

Scholar Green Primary School

Are you ready to make a difference across Key Stage 2?

Scholar Green Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and inspirational Key Stage 2 Leader to join our team for a one-year maternity cover.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or current middle leader who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. We welcome applications from candidates seeking a temporary appointment, as well as teachers currently employed in another school who may wish to undertake the role as a secondment.

The successful candidate will combine high-quality classroom teaching in Year 5 with dedicated leadership time to lead and develop provision across Key Stage 2. The post will attract a TLR payment.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing an excellent education for every child and who can combine strong classroom practice with effective, collaborative leadership.

The opportunity

As Key Stage 2 Leader, you will work closely with the senior leadership team and colleagues across Years 3–6 to ensure that pupils experience a consistently ambitious, inclusive and well-sequenced curriculum.

You will:

  • Lead and support the development of teaching and learning across Key Stage 2.
  • Promote high expectations for pupils' achievement, behaviour, attendance and personal development.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of curriculum and teaching and identify appropriate areas for development.
  • Support colleagues in developing their classroom practice through professional dialogue, collaboration and coaching.
  • Use assessment and other appropriate information to identify pupils' needs and inform teaching.
  • Ensure that pupils who face barriers to learning, including pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils, are supported to access an ambitious curriculum.
  • Contribute to school improvement planning and evaluate the impact of improvement priorities.
  • Support effective transition and progression across Key Stage 2.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and the wider school community.
  • Contribute to wider school leadership and improvement priorities.
  • Help foster a positive culture of high expectations, professional development and continuous improvement.

Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will teach a Year 5 class for part of the week, ensuring that you remain closely connected to classroom practice and the experiences of pupils.

Computing specialism

A specialism or particular strength in Computing would be highly desirable.

This could include experience of leading Computing, developing a Computing curriculum, supporting colleagues with subject knowledge or using technology creatively to enhance pupils' learning.

There would be opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute to the continued development of Computing across the school.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who is:

  • An excellent classroom practitioner.
  • Ambitious for every pupil.
  • Passionate about teaching and learning.
  • Able to lead, support and inspire colleagues.
  • Confident in evaluating the effectiveness of provision.
  • Able to identify meaningful priorities for improvement and follow these through.
  • Committed to inclusion and ensuring that all pupils can succeed.
  • Skilled at building positive professional relationships.
  • Reflective, resilient and open to professional learning.
  • Highly organised and able to manage the demands of teaching alongside leadership.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
  • Positive, approachable and able to bring others with them.

This role would suit an experienced Key Stage 2 teacher, existing subject or phase leader, aspiring senior leader or current school leader who would welcome the opportunity to develop their experience in a different setting.

We particularly welcome applications from teachers who are considering leadership development through a one-year secondment, but applications from individuals seeking a direct temporary appointment are equally welcome.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
