Caretaker

Start date: ASAP

Permanent / full-time (52 weeks)

Southend LGPS Scale 5, range points 8-12 (£27,709 - £29,542 per annum, plus an additional £600 pa call out allowance)

Full Time 37 hours per week operating within a shift system between: 05.00 to 18.00.

There will be a requirement to occasionally work outside of these hours to accommodate the needs of the School.

We're looking for a practical, enthusiastic and dependable Caretaker to join our school team and play an important part in making our school a fantastic place to learn and work.

This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in their work and enjoys seeing the difference they make each day. You'll help ensure our school buildings, grounds and equipment are safe, clean, welcoming and maintained to a high standard, creating an environment where our children and staff can thrive.

No two days will be quite the same. Your responsibilities will include cleaning, moving furniture, decorating, litter clearance, carrying out basic repairs and maintenance, operating the heating plant and using mechanical cleaning equipment. Some aspects of the role can be physically demanding, so you'll need to be comfortable with practical, active work.

We're looking for someone who is friendly, hardworking, reliable and self-motivated, with high standards and a positive, can-do approach. You'll be someone who spots what needs doing and takes pride in getting the job done well.

Ideally, you'll have previous experience in a similar practical or premises-based role, along with a good understanding of Health and Safety requirements. You should also hold Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, or equivalent.

Most importantly, you'll understand that working in a school is about more than looking after buildings. You'll be part of the wider school community, helping us provide a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for our children every single day.

Interviews will be held: To be arranged on application.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early upon appointment of a successful applicant.

Your normal place of work is at Chase High School, however, the Discovery Educational Trust reserves the right to require you to work at any other of its establishments, whether current or future. This may be for a temporary period or on a permanent basis, according to the needs of the employer.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
