The posting

Part-Time School Librarian (PreK-8th Grade)

Location: AlRazi Academy, West Des Moines, Iowa

Schedule: During the school hours, Schedule TBD based on availability of the applicant.

Role Summary

AlRazi academy is seeking a creative and organized Part-Time Librarian to manage our media center and inspire a lifelong love of literacy in our students. This role serves a diverse age range, from introducing our youngest learners (PreK) to picture books to helping our middle schoolers (8th grade) develop research and information literacy skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support: Conduct weekly library "specials" or scheduled visits for PreK-8th grade classes, including read-alouds and age-appropriate lessons on library usage.
  • Collection Management: Curate, catalog, and maintain a diverse collection of books and digital resources that align with the school’s mission and curriculum.
  • Literacy Advocacy: Organize school-wide literacy events, such as Book Fairs (e.g., Scholastic), "Read Across America" week, or local author visits.
  • Information Literacy: Guide middle school students in navigating digital databases, citing sources, and practicing responsible digital citizenship.
  • Library Environment: Maintain an inviting, organized, and inclusive space that encourages students to explore new genres and topics.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; coursework in Library Science, Education, or English preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a school or library setting is highly valued.
  • Skills: * Strong communication skills with both children and faculty. Familiarity with library management software (e.g., Follett Destiny, Alexandria) or a willingness to learn. Ability to work independently and manage a budget for new acquisitions.
  • Compliance: Ability to pass all state-required background checks for working with minors.

Why This Role is Unique

In a PreK-8th environment, you have the unique opportunity to watch a student grow from their very first library card to their final 8th-grade research project. You aren't just checking out books; you are building a culture of curiosity.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
