The posting

About the Role: You will work with engineering teams to lead next-generation automation for middleware and web services. The role covers evolving legacy platforms and leading their build, integration and migration to cloud-native, open-source and AI/agent-powered platforms. You will need deep technical credibility, a visionary approach, and the ability to partner with application, AI, analytics and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own a multi-year middleware and web services roadmap aligned to business goals such as cloud migration, cost optimisation, latency SLAs and AI/ML readiness.
  • Administer and optimise IBM application hosting technologies, including WebSphere Application Server, WebLogic, WebSphere Portal, WebSphere Liberty, WebSphere Process Server, WebLogic Forms and Reports, and IBM HTTP Server (IHS).
  • Support other web hosting platforms such as Oracle Application Server, Apache and Tomcat.
  • Drive adoption of AI, agentic and AIOps capabilities, including anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, self-healing, auto-scaling and automated patching.
  • Build end-to-end observability for middleware platforms using tools such as Grafana, Datadog or equivalents.
  • Lead cloud-native patterns for web services and middleware on AWS, while keeping critical on-premises applications stable and secure.
  • Build secure, self-service middleware capabilities through UI and API solutions for end users and applications.
  • Enforce enterprise information security protocols, manage SSL certificates and execute vulnerability patching for middleware components.
  • Design and maintain message-driven processes for low-latency, high-volume transaction environments, including wires, ACH and instant payments, and manage SWIFT applications.
  • Automate operational tasks and infrastructure changes using wsadmin, Python, Ansible or PowerShell.
  • Ensure customer requirements meet information security standards, policies and guidelines, and support routine compliance activities.
  • Develop, document and maintain middleware disaster recovery plans and end-to-end runbooks.
  • Adopt DevOps and Agile practices in day-to-day work.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with middleware, web hosting and application server products in a large organization.
  • Solid experience administering IBM middleware, including WebSphere, WebLogic, WebSphere Portal, WebSphere Liberty, WebSphere Process Server, WebLogic Forms and Reports, and IHS.
  • Experience with security compliance and protocols such as SSL and server certificates.
  • Good working knowledge of WebSphere (wsadmin) scripting, J2EE, XML, SQL and Shell or Perl scripting.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux system administration and TCP/IP networking, plus Windows proficiency.
  • Familiarity with compliance and risk frameworks such as ISO 27002 and SDLC.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one public cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or Spinnaker.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as writing, testing and deploying reusable Terraform modules.
  • Experience managing support and change management using ServiceNow.

Desirable

  • Certification in public cloud or middleware products.

Success Attributes

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
