The posting

About the job

TechUnited:NJ is built to empower entrepreneurs, innovators and instigators to build a better future for all. We come to market with events big and small (invite-only CEO dinners to the 5000+ person Propelify Innovation Festival) as well as policy advocacy, mentorship programs, startup challenges and lots more. We are a small yet very mighty group that punches above our weight class, looking to grow the team.

TechUnited:NJ is seeking a Director of Business Development to generate new sponsorships for TechUnited:NJ programs and events and renew and grow existing sponsorship relationships.

The ideal candidate has the ability to build their own pipeline of business, ranging from large corporations and well known brands to service providers, universities, investors, and startups and is experienced in sponsorship and event sales.

The role is best suited for someone immersed in the tech community & reliant on technology as a business tool. This role requires relationship building and bespoke sponsorship sales - executive communication, ability to creatively engage brands, and history of quota attainment are critical for success.

Director of Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Source & create campaigns for outbound lead generation for new business
  • Attend events to source new leads and develop existing relationships
  • Serve as the main point of contact for a wide range of sponsorship prospects both new and renewal
  • Achieve $1M annual quota for sponsorship sales
  • Create compelling sales proposals & collaborate with marketing on sales materials & decks
  • Track your sales activity & metrics using Hubspot CRM and other tools
  • Very comfortable with new technology tools that aid sourcing and selling (IE ConvertKit, Followupthen, Clearbit, Canva, Apollo, etc…)
  • Work seamlessly with TechUnited:NJ’s CEO & VP to leverage resources to win high-value & strategic deals
  • Support creative planning & content creation including on-site event support, speaker & startup pitch suggestions, content ideas, & dinner and meetup hosting

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the tech & startup industry for at least 5 years
  • Demonstrated the ability to thrive in a startup environment, showing flexibility and resilience in the rapidly changing landscape of emerging technology
  • 5+ years of experience in business development with proven track record for quarterly and annual quota attainment and KPI achievement
  • Experience sourcing, selling, and closing new business at the SMB & enterprise level
  • Polished and articulate with excellent communication skills in both business and social settings
  • Exceptional client engagement skills, capable of winning business with C-Suite executives & a variety of stakeholders
  • Comfortable working on a small team
  • The ideal candidate will be well networked in the NJ/NYC tech community
  • Scrappy/can-do attitude leveraging resources to get things done, even in a non conventional approach

Excellence in this role over time would provide opportunities that would include growing a more robust sales team, launching new programs, and/or entering new markets.

We tend to work mostly remote and average getting together one day/week.

This position is eligible for commissions based on closed business, and accelerators based on quota attainment. TechUnited:NJ offers a comprehensive benefits package, vacation policy, and paid parental leave.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
