Job Description

Your contribution

At Raymarine, we create marine electronics that help people navigate, monitor and operate vessels safely and effectively on the water. Our products are trusted by recreational boaters, commercial operators and first responders around the world.

As a Software Engineer, you will help develop software across our product portfolio, with a primary focus on our chartplotters. These products bring together navigation, charting, SONAR, RADAR, cameras and vessel information into a single, intuitive user experience.

Working within a collaborative Agile team, you will contribute throughout the software lifecycle, from design and development through to testing, release and ongoing improvement. You will work closely with software engineers, test engineers, product managers and user experience specialists to deliver reliable, high-quality products.

We are looking for engineers who enjoy contributing beyond feature development. Software design, testing, quality, security and continuous improvement are all important parts of the role. Success in this position requires curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to work across a broad range of technologies and problem domains. While C++ and Qt form the core of this role, there may also be opportunities to work with technologies such as Python depending on project needs. Raymarine actively encourages the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools to improve productivity, learning, software quality and engineering efficiency.

While the role is primarily focused on chartplotters, there will be opportunities to contribute across other Raymarine product lines and broaden your skills through activities such as Scrum Mastering, mentoring and continuous improvement initiatives.

You'll be part of a team that takes ownership of the complete software lifecycle, from initial design through to release, maintenance and continuous improvement.

Your job in plain text

  • Develop and maintain application software for Raymarine products using C++ and Qt.
  • Design and implement features for chartplotters and related marine products.
  • Work with integrated marine systems, connecting software with vessel networks, sensors, peripherals, internet-connected services and communication technologies.
  • Develop software within a Linux-based environment using modern development tools and workflows, including GitLab, Jira and Confluence.
  • Apply sound software engineering principles, including design patterns, multithreaded development and maintainable software design.
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of large, complex software systems.
  • Support the delivery of secure, reliable, high-quality products through testing, continuous improvement and engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively across multiple projects and disciplines, adapting quickly to changing priorities and requirements.
  • This role is primarily office-based to support close collaboration with colleagues and product teams, with the opportunity to work from home one day per week.
  • Carry out the role in accordance with all relevant legislation and following Raymarine’s policies and processes (including but not limited to those relating to ethics, compliance, cyber security, product development, labour and human rights, and the environment.)
  • Undertake all mandatory training as requested.

To be ready to take on this role we would love if you have

  • 3yrs+ experience developing multithreaded applications in C++ using Qt and QML.
  • Good understanding of software design principles, design patterns, maintainable code practices and software modelling techniques such as UML.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within Linux development environments and familiarity with Docker or containerised development workflows.
  • Experience developing automated tests and an appreciation for software quality practices.
  • Exposure to networking, internet or communication technologies such as TCP/IP, UDP, Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with large and complex codebases would be advantageous.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, a self-motivated approach, and an awareness of secure software development principles.
  • Experience with algorithm development or GitLab pipeline configuration would be beneficial.

What Raymarine offers you

  • Opportunity to develop your career with one of the leading marine electronics companies.
  • At Raymarine, you get a unique opportunity to experience how cutting-edge research and development, software development and hardware development come together under one roof.
  • Friendly culture with a focus on collaboration, problem-solving and creativity.
  • A fair compensation structure and benefits.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
