The Manager, Revenue and Receivables is responsible for overseeing the revenue accounting and billing functions for Telesat and its subsidiaries, credit and collections for the Consolidated group of companies, and implementation and maintenance of revenue reporting and related controls.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 7 finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, efficiency, and professional growth
- Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of the Company’s revenues while developing strategies to decrease financial close times
- Review revenue contracts and determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment, including the preparation or review of accounting memos to support revenue recognition for complex contracts
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of appropriate financial reporting systems for our LEO and GEO businesses and ensure appropriate controls are in place to support the accuracy and integrity of the financial information, LEO ERP project is under development
- Leverage AI developments to assist in the modernization of reporting, analysis and collections
- Main point of contact with external auditors for consolidated audit and CRTC audit
- Meet monthly with Sales and Marketing VPs to determine collection strategies for a diverse portfolio of receivables
- Assess the adequacy of the AFDA and bad debt provisioning
- Review monthly journal entries and reconciliations, as well as quarterly requirements including backlog, KPI
- Assist with ad-hoc reports and special projects
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting (or Business Management, Finance or related discipline) from a recognized university
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA)
- Minimum 8 years of experience
- Experience managing a team
- Experience with large complex ERP systems
Specialized Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of IFRS.
- Thorough knowledge of the standard accounting procedures, internal controls and reporting practices.
- Sound understanding of foreign currency accounting at the subsidiary and consolidated levels.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and use sound judgment.
- Ability to handle multiple requests in order of priority.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out projects and tasks within a complex work environment.
