Senior Network Engineer – SD-WAN Platform & Infrastructure

Job Summary

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our SD-WAN Engineering team, responsible for the design, operation, security, modernization, and lifecycle management of Telstra's SD-WAN platforms.

This is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela), platform engineering, automation, and operational excellence. This role is primarily focused on Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela) and will also support the introduction and integration of new SD-WAN technologies such as Fortinet and Palo Alto.

While Cisco SD-WAN remains the current focus, we are expanding our technology landscape to include Fortinet, Palo Alto, and other leading SD-WAN platforms. Working closely with engineering teams in Australia and internationally, you will play a key role in evolving Telstra's SD-WAN capabilities, enhancing platform resilience, and supporting next-generation Network-as-a-Platform initiatives.

What We offer

  • Performance-related pay
  • Access to thousands of learning programs so you can level-up
  • Global presence across 22 countries; opportunities to work where we do business.
  • Up to 26 weeks maternity leave provided to the birth mother with benefits for all child births
  • Up to 16 weeks paid paternity leave provided to the non-birthing partners
  • Employees are entitled to 21 paid annual leaves per calendar year
  • Eligible employees are entitled to 12 days of paid sick / casual leave per calendar year
  • Relocation support options across India, from junior to senior positions within the company
  • Receive insurance benefits such as medical, accidental and life insurances

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Cisco SD-WAN platforms, including upgrades, migrations, security remediation, and platform modernization.
  • Support the introduction and integration of new SD-WAN technologies (such as Fortinet, Palo Alto)
  • Provide deep technical troubleshooting and Level 4 engineering support for complex incidents.
  • Design and support platform integrations, APIs, and automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Enhance reliability, security, monitoring, and service assurance across critical SD-WAN infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product, architecture, security, and operations teams to deliver scalable networking solutions.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, governance, and technical leadership across the domain.

What We're Looking For

  • 9+ years of networking experience in enterprise or service provider environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Cisco SD-WAN (Viptela) platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of SD-WAN controllers, management systems, and control plane operations.
  • Advanced networking skills across BGP, OSPF, VRF, IPsec, MPLS, QoS, DNS, and NAT.
  • Experience managing platform lifecycles, upgrades, root cause analysis, and operational excellence.
  • Working knowledge of automation technologies including Python, REST APIs, Git, and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with VeloCloud, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Juniper, or Meraki technologies.
  • Cloud networking experience across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Exposure to AIOps, observability, telemetry, and network automation.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNP Enterprise, Cisco SD-WAN Specialist, CCIE, Fortinet NSE, or cloud networking certifications.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to work on a mission-critical SD-WAN platform, influence its future direction, and collaborate with experienced engineers and product leaders across the business. We're looking for someone who combines deep Cisco SD-WAN expertise with a willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute across a broad networking landscape.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
