📈 Who We Are:

We are rebuilding the energy transaction, making it transparent and fair.

Our goal is to put power back where it belongs, in the hands of customers and to take on one of the most critical problems of our century, access to low cost electricity.

tem exists to fix a broken global energy market that’s long favoured legacy operators, intermediaries, and opaque pricing. Today’s electricity system was not designed for rapid decarbonisation, AI-driven efficiency or fair access for the actual users - businesses and generators.

We’ve built the first AI native transaction infrastructure to reinvent how electricity is bought, sold and priced. Our technology is designed to cut out the inefficient fees, automate complex market flows, and bring transparency and fairness to energy transactions at scale.

In late 2025, after extraordinary growth, we closed a $75 million Series B - led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Albion, Atomico, Allianz, Hitachi Ventures, Hitachi Ventures, Schroders Capital and others - positioning us for global expansion, deeper product innovation and category leadership.

We’re scaling internationally and building toward a future where AI-driven infrastructure is foundational to electricity markets worldwide.

Since launch, our modern utility product, known as RED, has already facilitated thousands of business customers and billions in energy transaction value, proving that modern software and AI can transform an industry built on legacy systems.

At tem, we’re not just building another energy company, we’re rearchitecting market infrastructure so that transparency, efficiency and sustainability become the default, not the exception.

🎯 THE ROLE

We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Pricing.

You'll build and manage the Pricing API behind RED, tem's modern utility product - its performance, and its reliability. The systems you build price real energy contracts for businesses buying electricity and renewable generators selling it, so correctness shows up as money and speed shows up as trust.

This is a senior role in our Pricing squad. The focus is backend and data-heavy, with a quant-y flavour, and correctness is critical. You'll shape how our new Pricing API is built, untangle pricing from the systems around it, and make sure that when we can't price something, we can always explain why.

In your first 12 months, you might:

- See our new Pricing API built from first design through to being ready for third-party access.

- Lead the move of pricing logic into one service with a clean boundary, deciding when it is proven stable enough to cut over.

- Design the detection, alerting and explainability that catch bad or slow prices before they ever reach a customer.

- Help make pricing measurably faster for every customer quote.

- Raise the engineering bar across the squad through design reviews, standards and agent-driven workflows.

🛠️ RESPONSIBILITIES

- Build & iteration of the Pricing API, so it is fast, correct and ready to be opened up to third parties.

- Support with untangling: run the extraction of pricing logic into its own service as a programme, agreeing clean boundaries with neighbouring teams.

- Own reliability: design the systems that detect pricing errors, stop bad quotes going out and explain every price we can't give.

- Raise the bar: lift the standard of everyone working on pricing through design reviews, engineering standards, pairing and multi-agent workflows.

- Close the loop: be the go-to engineer when live pricing incidents escalate, and turn what you learn into structural fixes on the roadmap.

✅ REQUIREMENTS

Must-Haves

- Deep production backend Python: you have designed and owned APIs at scale, and been the person others escalate to when they broke.

- You have led a significant decoupling or migration of a live system without breaking what depended on it.

- Strong FastAPI and SQL, and experience in data and analytics-heavy systems where the correctness of numbers costs money.

- You set technical direction across teams you don't manage, and can negotiate service boundaries with neighbouring teams.

- You are agent-native: you don't just use Claude or similar daily, you design multi-agent workflows that raise a whole team's throughput.

- Product engineering judgement: you know who reads a price and why, and you trade off speed, accuracy and explainability deliberately.

Desirable

- Domain knowledge from energy pricing, fintech or neo-utilities.

- Experience building APIs consumed by external third parties.

- AWS and serverless patterns (Lambda, event-driven services, Postgres on RDS).

- Polars, or a track record of making numerical code fast.

🎁 BENEFITS & PERKS

- Competitive salary - our current band for this role is [salary band] or equivalent in local currency.

- Stock options so everyone has ownership in our mission.

- 25 days holiday plus public holidays. Swap public holidays for the ones that matter most to you, and enjoy your birthday off.

- Remote first and flexible working, with clear core hours and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons.

- Up to GBP1,200 or EUR1,400 per year for your remote setup.

- Up to GBP150 or EUR170 per month for wellbeing.

🤝 INTERVIEW PROCESS

- Intro call with Talent Partner, Jack, 30 minutes.

- Behavioural interview, 60 minutes.

- Technical interview with members from the team, 75 minutes including a practical exercise.

- Bar Raiser interview with leadership stakeholders, 45 minutes.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, including those that are traditionally underrepresented in the tech and energy sectors. If you’re excited about this role but not sure you meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Your unique perspective could be exactly what we’re looking for.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
