The posting

At TerraFirma, we’re redefining how the world moves earth for construction. Founded by former SpaceX engineers and backed by Kleiner Perkins and Bain Capital Ventures, TerraFirma is automating construction to make it faster, cheaper, and safer.

Our Story & Mission

At SpaceX, we were part of the teams that built the largest rocket in human history, launched the largest constellation of satellites ever made, and delivered connectivity to millions of people worldwide. What we learned was simple: infrastructure is everything.

At Starbase, the biggest barrier to launching missions to Mars was not building the rocket. It was how slow, expensive, and complex it was to build the infrastructure around it. We lacked buildings, roads, water, power, communications, and waste management, and constructing them took far more time and resources than it should have.

From a first-principles perspective, that doesn't make sense. It shouldn't be this hard or costly to create the foundations for progress. That’s when we realized something important: the same engineering mindset that enabled us to tackle space exploration and mass manufacturing could be applied to infrastructure. By bringing the principles of simplification, iteration, acceleration, and automation to construction, we can unlock a new era in how the world builds.

Accelerating infrastructure unlocks progress across every domain, creating a self-sustaining engine for tackling humanity’s toughest challenges. The innovations we develop on Earth will lay the groundwork for the technologies that one day make settlement on Mars possible.

Job Overview

You will be TerraFirma’s first in-house IT Field Technician, keeping our people, devices, and buildings running as we grow from about 45 to 150+ employees. This is a hands-on, on-site role: you’ll set up laptops and iPads for new hires, redeploy equipment, run network cable, and be the first stop when anyone at the office needs IT help.

You’ll work directly with our IT Director, who sets standards and owns infrastructure, while you make it happen on the ground every day. We care more about curiosity, reliability, and hands-on ability than years of experience, and we’ll train the right person on our systems and on cabling. Along the way, you’ll learn identity management, device management, and enterprise networking on the job.

Responsibilities

- Prepare, set up, and hand off laptops, desktops, iPads, and peripherals for new employees, and walk them through first sign-in and the tools they’ll use

- Wipe, reimage, and redeploy returned equipment, and retire devices at end of life

- Enroll devices in our mobile device management (MDM) platforms and confirm they report in correctly

- Keep hardware inventory accurate, including who has what, serial numbers, and spares, and receive and check incoming equipment orders

- Own the IT help Slack channel, resolving what you can and escalating the rest to the IT Director

- Troubleshoot hardware, Wi-Fi, printer, sign-in, and app issues for Mac, Windows, iPad, and Linux users

- Run, terminate, label, and test Cat6/Cat6A network cable for new desks, rooms, and suites

- Mount and connect Wi-Fi access points, cameras, and other network devices, and keep network closets and racks organized

- Serve as the on-site point of contact for outside vendors, including low-voltage contractors, ISPs, and door access providers

- Carry out projects planned by the IT Director, such as device re-enrollments, office moves, and network upgrades

- Document fixes and how-tos, spot recurring problems, and suggest improvements

Basic Qualifications

- Comfortable setting up and troubleshooting both Mac and Windows computers

- Clear, friendly communication with non-technical coworkers, in person and over Slack

- Organized and detail-oriented, with the habit of labeling, tracking serial numbers, and following checklists

- Takes ownership and follows through without being chased

Preferred Skills & Experience

- 1+ year in help desk, desktop support, field tech, or a similar hands-on role

- Experience running and terminating network cable, or other low-voltage work (cameras, alarms, access control)

- Exposure to MDM tools, Google Workspace, Okta, or Slack administration

- Familiarity with iPads/iOS and basic Linux

- Basic networking knowledge, including IP addresses, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and switches

- CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification, or working toward one

Additional Requirements

- Must be willing to work on site daily in Buda, TX

- Able to do physical work, including lifting up to 50 lb, working on ladders, and pulling cable through ceilings and walls

- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally as needed; a valid passport is a plus

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
