Who we are - Our Mission

terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage. The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match. By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms.

What we are hiring for - Your Role

We are looking for a People & Culture Manager (m/f/d) to join our People & Culture team. In this role, you will take ownership of core people operations – from recruitment and onboarding to employee engagement and HR administration – and play a key part in keeping terralayr's people processes running smoothly. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys autonomy and structure, and who wants to be a reliable point of contract for people related matters.

What you will work on - Your Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and onboarding: Own recruitment end-to-end - from writing and posting job ads to sourcing, screening, interviewing, and coordinating hiring decisions with hiring managers. Take full ownership of onboarding, designing and running a smooth, welcoming start for every new hire.
  • Performance management: Coordinate the performance review cycle - setting timelines, preparing materials, and supporting managers through reviews and improvement plans.
  • Organizational development: Own and continuously improve HR systems, processes, and documentation, identifying opportunities to automate transactional tasks as we grow.
  • Employee engagement: Support delivery of engagement initiatives - run surveys and feedback sessions, analyze results, and independently drive follow-up actions.
  • HR policies and compliance: Own day-to-day HR policy administration and compliance with German labor law; first point of guidance on HR matters, escalating legal questions to the CEO.
  • Employee relations: Primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns; resolve day-to-day issues with discretion, escalating sensitive cases.
  • Culture, events and employer branding: Own internal culture initiatives and events - team-building, workshops, celebrations and drive external employer branding through careers content, and candidate materials.

What we are looking for - Your Qualifications

  • Experience: 1-3 years of relevant, hands-on generalist HR experience across recruitment, onboarding, or engagement; startup experience is a plus.
  • Ownership mindset: Proven ability to own tasks end-to-end without close supervision.
  • People-centric approach: Strong interpersonal skills and genuine care for supporting employees, with the discretion to handle sensitive issues.
  • Language: Minimum C1-level German and strong written and verbal English skills are both required
  • HR knowledge: Solid knowledge of HR best practices and German labor law is a plus
  • Tools: Prior experience working with Personio is a plus
  • Grow with us: this role starts as a 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave, and we're already considering converting it into a permanent position
