Job Description

The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) seeks applications from qualified candidates, with a passion for teaching, for a full-time non-tenure-track Lecturer position in mathematics. Appointment can begin in Spring 2027. The specialization is open, but applicants should be qualified to teach both math and statistics courses. Excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum, and ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues on improving success rates in entry-level mathematics courses is expected. Contribution to improving student success in entry level mathematics courses is a high priority for the institution. The base teaching load at A&M-SA for lecturers is 5/5; reassigned time for service is possible. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed. Service to the department, college, university, and the community is dependent on teaching load. This is a position that requires teaching in person on campus, though a few courses may be taught online.

The Department provides a rich educational experience for students interested in computing, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor’s degree programs in these disciplines as also support courses in physics for STEM majors. We also offer Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses with small class sizes, and state-of-the-art technology, in high-tech classrooms. We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty’s mentorship.

A&M-SA is committed to excellence. We recruit faculty that enhance the breadth, depth and quality of our students' educational experiences by providing a variety of role models and mentors for our student population. Such faculty help us attract, retain, and graduate students more successfully. In this context applicants are required to address, in their cover letter, how their life experiences, work history, professional engagement, and relevant community engagements will contribute to the success of our students, and what the applicants' plans are for serving our student population.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. All areas will be considered.
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.
  • Evidence of potential for improving student success in entry level mathematics courses.
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in teaching mathematics, commensurate with the rank of Lecturer (teaching advanced topics in High School and/or Graduate Teaching Assistantship count).
  • Experience in collaboration with faculty on projects geared toward students’ academic success.

In the cover letter please speak to the following topics:

  • Engagement with teaching Mathematics.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
