The posting

The Animal Retreat is a dog daycare and hotel located along Guillemard Road. As we continue to grow, we're looking for passionate, responsible and dedicated dog lovers to join our team as Dog Daycare Handlers!

This is a hands-on and active role that involves caring for dogs of different sizes, personalities and temperaments. Beyond simply loving dogs, we're looking for individuals who take ownership of their responsibilities, exercise good judgement and understand the importance of providing consistent, attentive care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environment for all dogs
  • Handle general housekeeping duties, including cleaning up after dogs
  • Observe and understand each dog's personality, behaviour and play style
  • Supervise group play sessions and engage dogs through enrichment activities such as puzzles and games
  • Walk dogs daily and ensure they receive adequate exercise
  • Prepare and serve meals according to individual feeding schedules
  • Communicate with pet owners and provide updates on their dogs
  • Capture photos and videos for daily updates to owners
  • Assist with grooming tasks such as showering dogs
  • Monitor dogs closely and promptly flag any unusual behaviour, health concerns or safety issues

Requirements

  • A genuine love for dogs and their well-being
  • Physically fit and comfortable with a hands-on, active role
  • Able to handle dogs of various sizes, temperaments and energy levels
  • Able to work independently, take initiative and exercise sound judgement when handling day-to-day situations
  • Reliable and dependable, with a proactive attitude towards work
  • Able to communicate clearly and work well as part of a team
  • Willing to learn and open to feedback

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who understands that caring for dogs comes with responsibility, patience and commitment. We value team members who take pride in their work and can be trusted to carry out their duties with care, even without constant supervision.
