The posting

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are developing technology to increase tunneling speed and reduce costs by a factor of 10 or more, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

We are seeking a Fire Protection Specialist to support fire and life safety systems across our tunneling and transportation infrastructure. This role will serve as the responsible technical expert (RME) for fire protection systems, ensuring systems are properly designed, installed, inspected, tested, maintained, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.

Responsibilities Oversee installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire alarm and suppression systems. Ensure all designs comply with NFPA 502 (and related codes), local AHJ requirements, and The Boring Company’s project standards. Coordinate with internal engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate fire/life safety systems into overall tunnel design and construction packages. Interface with AHJs, fire marshals, and third-party reviewers during design review, permitting, and acceptance processes. Identify system deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and ensure operational readiness. Maintain inspection, testing, maintenance, and compliance documentation. Support system commissioning, performance verification, and resolution of design-related field issues. Evaluate emerging risks (including EV battery hazards) and apply performance-based design approaches where appropriate.

Basic Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent years of professional experience. NICET Level III or IV certification in a relevant discipline, such as Fire Alarm Systems, Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, or Water-Based Systems Layout. Demonstrated experience with fire protection systems, including fire alarms, fire suppression, or water-based systems. Experience in one or more of the following areas: system design or layout, installation, inspection, testing, commissioning, maintenance, or troubleshooting. Strong working knowledge of NFPA 502, NFPA 72, NFPA 13/14, and related codes applicable to tunnels and underground transit. Ability to interpret technical drawings, system layouts, specifications, and inspection documentation. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work onsite in Las Vegas, or Nashville.

Preferred Qualifications Prior design experience on tunnel, transit, or large-scale underground infrastructure projects. Familiarity with Siemens (or equivalent) fire alarm systems. Experience with performance-based fire safety design and EV battery fire considerations. Previous coordination with AHJs on complex or novel infrastructure projects.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
