  • Leading public preparedness initiatives and maintaining communication systems, such as emergency alerts and real-time information sharing, to keep the public informed and protected.
  • Supporting recovery and mitigation efforts to minimize future risks, restore essential services, and strengthen community resilience.

Why Fort Worth? This is your chance to make a lasting impact in one of the most vibrant and fast-growing cities in the country. Join us as we build a best-in-class emergency management and communications program that will stand out on the national stage and help shape the future of public safety in Fort Worth.

About the Role:

The City of Fort Worth’s Office of Emergency Management is seeking a seasoned emergency management leader to serve as the Community Engagement and Preparedness Lead. You will supervise and develop assigned staff, build lasting relationships with neighborhoods, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, schools, hospitals, and businesses, and support the Joint Emergency Operations Center (JEOC) during activations.

The ideal candidate is a proven emergency management leader and communicator who builds trust across diverse communities, turns preparedness messages into action, plans for large crowds and complex events, and can unite City departments, regional partners, and community stakeholders under a shared mission of public safety and resilience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) and Advanced Professional Series (APS), including NIMS, ICS 300/400, Public Information Officer (PIO) training, and special events contingency planning course work
  • Experience planning emergency operations for large special events, or running community preparedness campaigns, volunteer programs, or public alert and warning systems such as IPAWS
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, or experience reaching diverse, multilingual, and access and functional needs populations

The Sr. Emergency Management Officer job responsibilities can include:

  • Program Leadership – Leads the Community Engagement and Preparedness program; sets annual goals, success measures, and work plans; and recommends resource needs for public preparedness

  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing
