Nature of the Position Are you passionate about environmental stewardship and operational excellence? Join our team as a Wastewater Laboratory Technician where you will play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing our wastewater systems. Our Water Resource Centre is a renowned, tertiary level membrane filtration, class IV wastewater treatment facility. Under the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Operator, and reporting to the Manager of Wastewater, this hands-on position involves operating the wastewater treatment plant and troubleshooting complex systems, supporting regulatory compliance, and ensuring efficient plant performance. Primary duties include conducting laboratory sampling and analysis, interpreting data to guide operational decisions, and contributing to technical reporting and documentation. Post-secondary diploma in chemistry, biology, environmental science or related technical discipline BC EOCP certification in Wastewater Treatment Level II (or the ability to obtain certification within one year) Three (3) or more years’ experience in wastewater chemistry and a laboratory setting, including conduction of sampling, testing and analysis An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered Willingness and availability to work shift schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays as required Valid BC class five driver’s licence (or interprovincial equivalent) with clean drivers abstract
Preferred
Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of wastewater collection Post-secondary education in water and/or wastewater technology
Working Conditions This is a regular, full-time unionized role within the BCGEU. Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, flexibility to work evening and weekend is required. The hourly wage for this role is Grid 10, $38.91 – $44.97 (2027 rate), plus an attractive benefits and pension package.
