At KGUN 9, we help Southern Arizona stay informed, prepared, and connected every day. As our Weekend Meteorologist, you'll deliver accurate, compelling forecasts that matter to viewers across Tucson and the surrounding communities. From monsoon storms and extreme heat to clear desert skies, you'll help audiences understand how weather impacts their daily lives. You'll be a trusted on-air presence while contributing weather and news content across multiple platforms. This is an opportunity to combine forecasting expertise, storytelling, and community engagement in one of the country's most unique weather markets.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Prepare and deliver engaging weekend weathercasts using the latest meteorological data, radar systems, and graphics technology.
- Analyze weather information from satellites, radar, models, and other forecasting tools to create accurate forecasts.
- Provide urgent weather updates and breaking severe weather coverage when conditions warrant.
- Produce and distribute weather content across television, digital, social, streaming, and other media platforms.
- Develop weather-related story ideas and enterprise content that informs and serves the community.
- Report live from community events, weather-related locations, or field assignments as needed.
- Drive station vehicles to remote broadcast locations and live reporting assignments throughout the viewing area.
- Collaborate with newsroom leadership and technical teams to evaluate emerging weather technologies and presentation tools.
- Research, gather, and verify information through observation, interviews, and reliable sources.
- Support newsroom operations and perform additional duties that contribute to overall station success.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or a related field preferred.
- Three or more years of forecasting and on-air meteorology experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance meeting company requirements required.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Strong understanding of meteorological forecasting tools, weather systems, and broadcast presentation techniques.
- Proficiency with weather graphics systems, newsroom technology, and digital publishing platforms.
- Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment and field production workflows.
- Experience with video editing systems and multimedia storytelling.
- Excellent broadcast writing and AP style writing skills.
- Ability to communicate complex weather information clearly and confidently across multiple platforms.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated approach with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work across departments to serve viewers and communities.
- Ability to travel locally for live shots, community events, and field reporting assignments.
