Technology is a core pillar of their strategy, supported by a growing in-house engineering function. This is an opportunity to shape that foundation from an early stage.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior AI Systems Engineer to lead the development of next-generation Agentic Ambient Intelligence systems. This role sits at the intersection of Autonomous AI Agents, Smart Home Automation and Local-First Infrastructure.

You will architect and deploy autonomous systems that can reason, plan and act within a physical environment (via Home Assistant), while leveraging state-of-the-art AI tooling and data architectures. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between high-level agentic orchestration and low-level infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Agentic Systems & AI Orchestration

  • Design and implement autonomous agentic workflows using frameworks such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agentic OS.
  • Develop multi-agent systems capable of self-improvement, tool use and complex reasoning.
  • Integrate Vision frameworks and Voice AI (ElevenLabs) to create immersive, multimodal interaction layers.
  • Leverage cloud and local AI tooling (Cursor, Claude, Ollama, LMStudio, OpenCode) to accelerate development and deployment.

2. Smart Home & IoT Integration

  • Build deep integrations between AI agents and Home Assistant (or equivalent frameworks) to enable physical-world actions.
  • Develop custom components and automations that transform a “connected home” into a truly “intelligent home.”
  • Ensure low-latency, privacy-first communication between local agents and IoT devices.

3. Data Engineering & Infrastructure

  • Architect and maintain high-performance Data Lakes using DuckDB and Parquet for agent memory and analytical processing.
  • Manage local compute environments using Proxmox for virtualization and Docker for containerized service orchestration.
  • Optimize infrastructure for running local LLMs and vision models efficiently.

4. Fullstack Development

  • Develop responsive and intuitive dashboards using React JS for system monitoring and manual intervention.
  • Write robust, scalable backend services in Python to connect the AI, data and IoT layers.

Requirements

Technical Requirements

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AI agent frameworks such as OpenClaw, Hermes Agentic OS, LangChain/LangGraph and AutoGPT, and will be comfortable using AI tooling including Cursor, Claude, Ollama, LMStudio and OpenCode. Specialized AI expertise is expected in ElevenLabs (Voice), Vision-Language Models (VLM) and RAG.

On the smart home and IoT side, the role requires strong knowledge of Home Assistant, ESPHome, MQTT and Zigbee/Z-Wave. In infrastructure, candidates should be proficient in Proxmox, Docker and Linux SysAdmin, with Kubernetes as an optional skill.

For languages, Python (Expert), React JS (Proficient) and TypeScript are required. In data architecture, the role calls for experience with DuckDB, Apache Parquet and Vector Databases (Chroma/Pinecone).

  • Proven track record of building and deploying Autonomous Agents in production or advanced homelab environments.
  • Strong understanding of Local-First AI principles and privacy-centric system design.
  • Experience with multi-modal RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) involving structured and unstructured data.
  • Active contributor to open-source projects in the AI or Smart Home space.
