Healthcare runs on countless administrative tasks, and too much of that work is still painfully manual. Medsender is changing that with its AI Medical Assistant®, automating document processing, patient communications, and complex administrative workflows so healthcare teams can spend less time on busywork and more time delivering care. From extracting critical information and syncing patient records with leading EHRs to deploying Voice AI agents that handle patient calls and routine interactions, Medsender helps practices operate more efficiently without adding administrative headcount. In the past year alone, Medsender has saved healthcare providers millions of hours, giving thousands of practices more time to focus on patients, improve responsiveness, and deliver better care.

The opportunity: We're a small, fast-moving engineering team building high-impact products at the intersection of AI, healthcare data, and reliability. As an Engineering Manager, you'll help us maintain and elevate our culture of shipping fast without compromising quality. You'll lead and develop a high-performing team, improve engineering execution, and raise the technical bar as we scale. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on how we build, ship, and grow, without adding unnecessary layers of process or bureaucracy.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Lead and develop a high-performing team: Initially manage 4–5 engineers, owning performance management, coaching, mentorship, career development, and regular feedback.

- Drive engineering velocity and execution: Keep the team focused, aligned, and unblocked. Improve prioritization, coordination, and delivery to ensure we're consistently shipping high-quality products at speed.

- Raise the engineering bar: Establish and reinforce high standards for code quality, system reliability, technical decision-making, and operational excellence without sacrificing speed.

- Stay technically engaged: Partner closely with engineers on architecture, system design, and code reviews. Provide hands-on technical guidance and contribute code when it makes sense.

- Build a culture of ownership and accountability: Set clear expectations, develop strong individual contributors, identify performance gaps, and empower engineers to take ownership of their work.

- Continuously improve how we build: Identify bottlenecks, reduce unnecessary rework, and introduce pragmatic engineering processes that improve productivity rather than slow the team down.

- Champion AI-assisted development: Help the team leverage modern AI coding tools and workflows to improve development speed, code quality, and overall engineering effectiveness.

- Partner with engineering leadership: Report directly to the CTO and collaborate closely with senior technical leaders to align priorities, improve execution, and scale the engineering organization.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Engineering leadership experience: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and 2+ years of formal engineering management or team lead experience, ideally leading teams of 4–10 engineers.

- Strong technical foundation: A background as a software engineer with the technical depth to contribute to architecture discussions, evaluate system designs, review code, and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.

- Track record of shipping: Experience leading engineering teams in fast-paced environments where rapid iteration, high-quality code, and consistent delivery are core to the culture.

- People-first leadership: Demonstrated success coaching and developing engineers, managing performance, delivering actionable feedback, and building high-performing teams.

- Execution-oriented mindset: Strong ability to prioritize work, coordinate dependencies, remove blockers, and drive projects from planning through production.

- Pragmatic approach to engineering excellence: Sound judgment in balancing speed, quality, and reliability, with a bias toward lightweight processes and continuous improvement.

- Startup mentality: Comfortable operating in a small, high-ownership environment where priorities move quickly, ambiguity is common, and leaders are expected to be proactive and resourceful.

- Clear communicator and collaborative leader: Able to align engineers and stakeholders, set clear expectations, and create an environment of accountability, autonomy, and continuous improvement.

NICE TO HAVE

- Experience leading engineering teams at early-stage or high-growth startups.

- Experience building production systems in healthcare, fintech, or other environments where reliability, security, and data privacy are critical.

- Familiarity with our technology stack: Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Go, GCP, and Kubernetes.

- Experience implementing or improving engineering practices around CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production reliability.

- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to improve engineering productivity or helping teams adopt AI-driven development workflows.

WHAT WE OFFER:

- $250,000 - $300,000 base salary and equity package (early exercise, extended exercise).

- Great health benefits! (includes health, dental, and vision).

- Unlimited paid time off (PTO) and holiday schedule to support work.

- Regular company off-sites and engineering meetups.

- Hybrid collaboration in the heart of NYC: Join us 2–3 days per week at our NoMad office, steps from Madison Square Park, where in-person collaboration, quick problem-solving, and shared ownership help our team move fast and build great products.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
