Job Description

The Kinetic Group is a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of small caliber ammunition under the iconic brands B&P, CCI, Federal Premium, Fiocchi, HEVI, Remington and Speer. We have domestic ammunition manufacturing facilities in Minnesota, Idaho, Arkansas, and Missouri, and service law enforcement, government agencies and sporting enthusiasts throughout the world. Today, The Kinetic Group is a part of the Ammo+ division of The Czechoslovak Group (CSG), which holds a diverse portfolio of companies in the defense, security, automotive, aerospace and rail industries.

Federal Ammunition is seeking a Process Engineer to serve as the critical link between Product Development and Manufacturing Operations, leading the development, validation, and introduction of new ammunition products and manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for bridging product design and production by transforming new concepts into scalable, repeatable manufacturing processes while ensuring successful commercialization and production readiness.

This position reports to the Product Development Manager and is based out of our Anoka, Minnesota office.

As the Process Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the industrialization and manufacturing launch of new ammunition products from concept through full-rate production, ensuring product designs are optimized for manufacturability, quality, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage pilot runs, process validation activities, and production readiness efforts for new products and process improvements.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Development, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to execute successful new product introductions into manufacturing.
  • Evaluate manufacturing equipment, tooling, and process capabilities to support new product launches and recommend modifications or improvements as needed.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials, manufacturing process flows, work instructions, and production specifications.
  • Regularly interact with and provide technical guidance to manufacturing supervisors, operators, technicians, and shop personnel to ensure successful process execution.
  • Spend significant time on the production floor troubleshooting equipment, processes, and quality issues while driving practical, hands-on solutions.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance, identify process improvement opportunities, and implement initiatives focused on safety, throughput, quality, waste reduction, and cost savings.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and failure investigations to resolve design, production, equipment, and manufacturing issues.
  • Lead engineering projects including continuous improvement initiatives, equipment upgrades, automation efforts, and capital projects.
  • Communicate and work closely with engineering technicians, assigning workload and supporting testing, validation, and development activities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and external technical resources to support product and process development efforts.
  • Support Marketing with technical data reviews, product expertise, asset creation, and attendance at trade and consumer shows as a subject matter expert.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and manufacturing best practices to support continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Develop a strong understanding of small arms ammunition design, manufacturing processes, materials, and performance requirements.

You have:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 1-5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing processes, production operations, process development, or new product introduction activities.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a hands-on approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work effectively in both an engineering office and manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with Minitab or similar statistical analysis software.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

You might also have:

  • Experience in metal forming, cold heading, stamping, machining, or other high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Background in ammunition development, ballistics, firearms, and related processes.
  • Experience related to military service, hunting, competitive shooting, and reloading.
  • CAD/CAM experience.
  • Experience working directly with production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
