The posting

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

About the role

Wirecutter’s newsroom relies on our publishing platform to write, edit, and share the recommendations our readers trust. As a Product Manager Intern on the Publishing Platform team, you’ll join the team building and improving those tools and storytelling experiences. You’ll contribute to active product work alongside product, design, and engineering, and your work will support tools and experiences for our editorial colleagues and our audiences. Depending on team priorities, your work may support different parts of the publishing platform. You’ll report directly to the Director of Product Management for the Publishing Platform.

About our internship:

  • The duration is 10 weeks long, starting on June 7, 2027.
  • The rate of pay for this role is $40.00 per hour.
  • Interns work 40 hours per week.
  • This is a hybrid role based in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to active product work: Support the team on real platform work, such as researching a problem, shaping requirements, or evaluating options, with guidance from your manager and teammates.
  • Understand the people we build for: Join conversations with editors and other stakeholders to learn how they work, where the friction is, and what a better workflow looks like.
  • Help organize and prioritize opportunities: Collect and structure ideas and requests so the team can prioritize them using established frameworks.
  • Use data and research to inform decisions: Combine qualitative feedback with existing data to help frame problems and suggest how to test ideas.
  • Communicate clearly: Write concise updates, briefs, and other messages, adapting them for a range of audiences, from engineering colleagues to cross-functional partners.
  • Learn how the platform works: Build a working understanding of the technologies behind our publishing tools and how engineers assess feasibility.
  • Learn how a product team works: Take part in planning, design reviews, and demos, and build working relationships across a cross-functional team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Curiosity about how publishing and content tools work, how technology supports journalism, and how audiences experience Wirecutter’s journalism
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex ideas simply
  • Comfort asking clarifying questions and learning quickly in unfamiliar territory
  • An analytical mindset: you like using evidence to make a case

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with using AI tools in your day-to-day work
  • Prior internship, project, or coursework experience in product, design, data, or journalism. No product management experience is required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.
