About the Role

The New York Times Company is looking for an experienced security leader to serve in a key leadership and operational role. You will lead the ongoing transition toward a unified global corporate security operation, directly managing a team of in-house and contract security professionals and working with senior executives and operational leads across the company. This is a high impact leadership role, and you will be measured by your ability to build a cohesive physical security architecture, improve how our colleagues work together, and ensure our corporate security program supports the company's growth.

Responsibilities:

You will lead Corporate Security programs, by:

  • Design and implement a global security operations architecture:Scale operations across staff and offices in New York City, elsewhere in the U.S. and in 8 international offices and 33 international bureaus, ensuring consistent service delivery and operational resilience.Establish and maintain global governance frameworks to provide an application of corporate security standards across all offices, bureaus and regions, serving as the final point of escalation for operational policy decisions.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, globally distributed team:Ensure clear accountability, ownership and streamlined cross-functional support for internal clients.Developing a culture of professionalism, excellence, and innovation on your team by assessing, training, evaluating, and coaching the team members, using your previous experience and company provided programs.Being accountable for the daily management, success, and growth of your team, and all operational documentation to include scheduling, daily activity logs, overtime, incident reports, service ticket submissions, and successfully implementing desired organizational change at the day-to-day level.Evaluating the job performance of your team and counseling those employees on conduct, quality and quantity of work, suggesting areas and methods of improvement.Address your team's concerns, feedback, and suggestions promptly. Having an open-minded, proactive, and growth-oriented relationship with them.Serve as the deputy to the Executive Director, Corporate Security, for operational tasks and implementing strategic security objectives across the business enterprise.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate physical security threats:Collaborate with the Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), building security, and other teams and departments to enable real-time intelligence collection, global situational awareness/monitoring and rapid emergency response.Proactively identify security solutions and technologies to advance the security culture at our locations.Enforce security standards and expectations of employees, contractors, tenants, and visitors at our locations.Represent security leadership to other departments, other stakeholders, and at scheduled meetings.In exceptional circumstances may perform the work of any job in their area of supervision and may fully replace the Executive Director, Corporate Security, during absences and perform all responsibilities of the job.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • You will report to the Executive Director, Corporate Security.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 15 years experience in physical security and leadership of others.
  • Experience in scaling security operations within a global organization, moving toward proactive, intelligence-led, technology-driven architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff to perform at high levels and holding a team accountable for achieving its goals.
  • Skill in managing conflict and responding to team, employee, or stakeholder problems consistent with established procedures, company culture, and workplace norms.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and developing collaborative relationships and influence within a team, across departments, and at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience with security technology systems, end-user support and ticketing systems, including access control, visitor management, video monitoring systems, and latest AI and detection technologies.
  • Crisis management and emergency response planning experience.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, roles, responsibilities and managing multiple tasks at once.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Union experience.
  • Previous experience in a media organization.
  • Training program development and delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of project management and planning.

Additional Compensation and Benefits:

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$145,000—$160,000 USD
