Accounts Payable / Receivable Specialist | Alpena, MI

Salary Range: $51,000 - $75,000 depending on experience

This posting covers Accounts Payable / Receivable Specialist opportunities with manufacturers based in and around Alpena in Alpena County, within about 45 minutes of the city, including Ossineke, Hillman, Rogers City, and Lincoln.

The Opportunity

We partner with organizations in the Alpena area that seek Accounts Payable / Receivable Specialists. These companies are committed to building strong teams and look for professionals who can lead initiatives effectively. Usual Responsibilities

  • Enter invoices and payment data into the accounting system.
  • Prepare and run weekly check and electronic payment runs.
  • Apply customer payments to open invoices and reconcile cash receipts.
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and internal departments.
  • Prepare accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on past due balances.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and monthly AP and AR ledger accounts.
  • Maintain vendor and customer master files and supporting documentation.
  • Process vendor invoices and match them to purchase orders and receiving records.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency with ERP or accounting software and intermediate Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with high volume transaction processing.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for vendor and internal follow up.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in accounting or business preferred.
  • Two or more years of accounts payable or accounts receivable experience, ideally in manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of three-way matching and standard AP and AR cycles.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with sales and use tax and 1099 reporting.
  • Associate or bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or business.
  • Prior experience in a plant or production environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Epicor.
  • Exposure to cost accounting or inventory related transactions.
