Recreation Manager

The Salvation Army Kroc Center | South Bend, IN Full-time | Starting salary: $50,000–$55,000 annually

Bring your passion for recreation, youth development, and team leadership to a role where you can help shape programs for your community. As Recreation Manager at the South Bend Kroc Center, you’ll lead staff, develop activities, and help create welcoming spaces where people can play, stay active, and connect. This position offers hands-on experience in program planning, staff development, and facility operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, coordinate, and improve recreation programs for a variety of ages and interests.
  • Oversee daily operations of the gymnasium, outdoor turf field, and the Zone.
  • Supervise, schedule, and train Kroc Attendants in customer service, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Develop engaging activities for youth ages 11–17 in the Zone.
  • Work with the Program Director to keep recreation spaces safe, welcoming, and well staffed.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least two years of experience working with youth, sports, and/or in customer service.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills, including experience supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of recreation safety practices and proficiency with Microsoft products.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet The Salvation Army’s driver qualification standards.

Additional Requirements

A background check is required. Safe From Harm and CPR training must be completed within the first 30 days. Some evening and weekend work and occasional travel may be required. Duties may include extended standing, bending, walking, and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds, with reasonable accommodation available.

Paid Time Off:

  • Sick days begin accruing on the first of the month after one full calendar month of employment, and you may begin to use sick days after 90 days of employment.
  • Up to (6) earned sick days per year may be used as discretionary days.
  • Vacation begins accruing on the first of the month after one full calendar month after employment begins, and you may begin to use vacation days after (90) days of employment.
  • The accrual rate is based upon years of service and approved hours worked.
  • Two (2) personal days per calendar year based on hire date.
  • Paid holidays are effective immediately.
