The posting
Your mission
A room that reacts to you is a different engineering problem from a room that plays a video. Someone has to decide how every sensor, speaker, screen and light talks to everything else - and keep them talking for years.
Your Mission
You own the AV design on your projects, from the first client conversation to a system that’s running in the room with a completely satisfied customer.
- Work with sales to win the work: scope the technical side of a pitch, join client calls, sketch early concepts and budget estimates, and make sure what we sell is something we can build.
- Lead the AV design on your projects: system architecture, schematics and block diagrams, rack elevations and BOMs.
- Turn a creative concept into something that can be built — and say early when it can’t, and what would work instead.
- Design the interactive layer as part of the whole: how sensors, show control, lighting (DMX included), media and audio talk to each other, and what happens when one of them doesn’t.
- Define the AV network and work with IT on VLANs, QoS, multicast, AV-over-IP and security.
- Choose the right equipment and get the BOM out fast - accurate, current, and clear enough for a buyer and an installer to work from.
- Review submittals, check compatibility and manage technical risk with vendors and integrators.
- Compare our AV drawings to the architect’s and MEP drawings early, and flag conflicts while they’re still cheap to fix.
- Take part in commissioning: prove the system to spec, then keep the documentation and as-builts accurate.
- Raise technical concerns early in the design process
- Share what you learn with the engineers around you, so the whole team gets better, not just the project.
Your profile
You’ve built AV systems that go well beyond a conference room, and you’re ready to own the design for your own projects. If your background is boardrooms and huddle spaces, that’s a solid start — we’ll want to hear what you’ve built beyond them. This is an engineering role: you’ll help pre-sales when needed, but the work is designing and building.
MUST HAVE
- [5-10]+ years designing and commissioning AV systems, with real projects you can walk us through.
- Strong AV system design across audio, video, control and interactive systems.
- AV schematics (block and wiring diagrams) in AutoCAD or similar, and BOMs you can produce quickly and trust.
- Confident AV networking and AV-over-IP: VLANs, QoS, multicast, Dante, AES67, NDI.
- Hands-on commissioning across complex control, DSP and video.
- A feel for what’s buildable: installation constraints, cable routes, power and cooling.
- An affinity for programming: you’re comfortable with control code and with how AV systems talk to software.
- The ability to explain technical intent clearly to creatives, vendors, IT and client technical teams.
- A passion to build immersive and creative spaces
HOW YOU WORK
- You own your design, and when something doesn’t work, you’re the first one looking for why.
- You stay structured and calm when a problem turns up.
- You take feedback well, and give it back just as clearly.
- You balance creative ambition with delivery reality, and say so honestly.
- You keep learning and remain flexible. This field moves fast, and learning is part of the job.
NICE TO HAVE
- AVIXA CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design). Many US projects require AVIXA-certified engineers, so this opens doors.
- Experience with Crestron, Extron or similar platforms. Signals, not requirements.
- DMX lighting familiarity.
- A background in experience design, exhibitions, attractions or themed spaces.
- Physical installation experience, or construction know-how in the pre-engineering phase.
- LED walls and large-format video. If you haven’t worked with them, we’ll train you.
Why us?
We build rooms people walk into and feel something. The hard part is rarely the screen. It’s getting interactive systems and AV over IP to behave across large installations, and that’s the problem you’ll spend your days on. Our Charlotte team works hand in hand with teams in Europe.
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. Whoever joins gets trained into how TSC builds, and we share what we know with each other instead of keeping it to ourselves.
There’s a route, where you’d own the design set on our most complex builds.
We build worlds worth entering. Someone has to make them work.
