POSITION OVERVIEW: At The Globe and Mail, we are looking for a Senior iOS Developer to help architect, build, test and ship new features and improvements to our iOS app. Working closely with Product, UX Design, Quality Analysts, Web Developers and business stakeholders, you will contribute to high-quality mobile experiences used by some of The Globe’s most engaged readers across Canada and around the world. This is hybrid position based in Toronto and is being posted to fill an existing vacancy. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prioritize daily activities between developing new features and maintaining the existing codebase and integrations, with a strong focus on expanding our iOS audience by delivering user-centric features and engaging experiences. Participate in creative technology and design review and architecture sessions. Champion high standards in code quality, iOS app reliability and performance, taking ownership of the codebase and contributing to the robustness of our iOS app infrastructure. Elevate team performance by sharing insights, adopting iOS development best practices and continually seeking ways to innovate and improve our app while staying current with the latest iOS developments. Act as a mentor to peers by sharing technical knowledge, providing guidance and modelling strong engineering and leadership practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

6+ years of experience developing iOS apps, including deep experience with Swift and extensive experience in UI development using SwiftUI and UIKit. Strong understanding of async patterns using GCD, Combine and Swift concurrency, including async/await, actors and structured concurrency. Deep knowledge of areas such as memory management, app lifecycle events, modular app design, dependency injection and protocol-oriented programming. Ability to design and build mobile software solutions that consider Apple platform guidelines, constrained execution environments, disconnected operation, App Store release cycles, accessibility, security and privacy. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (TestFlight, GitHub Actions, Fastlane etc.) as well as App Store release workflows. Experience with testing practices, including Swift Test, and performance/monitoring tools such as Instruments, Crashlytics and Sentry. Some experience with analytics tooling, push notifications at scale, live-updating content, video and audio playback, A/B testing and advertising SDK implementation. Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex etc., and are keen to adopt and improve agentic engineering practices. Strong product sense and the ability to translate product goals into high-quality software solutions. Well-developed opinions about software architecture and technical excellence, balanced with openness to change when needed. Self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

SALARY: The base salary for this role ranges from $118,400 to $129,100 per year. Placement within this range depends on a candidate’s level of experience, technical skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements. Candidates who have been identified as meeting the role’s requirements can expect to be near the midpoint of this range, while the upper end is reserved for those with specialized expertise or a strong track record of success in comparable roles. This role may be eligible for The Globe’s Annual Incentive Plan, which is based on a combination of corporate and revenue objectives and rewards individual performance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
