The posting

Who We Are Hi! We’re Thinkingbox, the brief to built agency. Creating innovative digital, experiential, social, and content, we partner with leading brands across industries like sports, gaming, entertainment, and technology. We believe the hands that carefully craft the work should belong to the minds that dreamed it. So while others pass the buck, we’re already building. Because our thinkers are also the makers. Culture is at the heart of who we are, and our offices are hubs of natural collaboration. From hanging out with our office dogs to enjoying Thursday happy hours, we keep our work environment vibrant, welcoming, and fun. Each year, we also encourage our people to spend a month exploring the world, whether that means working from another office or even from the beaches of Mexico, to expand their perspectives and bring fresh inspiration back to the team.

The Opportunity We're looking for a talented Art Director with a strong design background to join our creative team in Vancouver.

This is a great opportunity for someone who started their career as a Designer and has grown into an Art Director, or a strong Senior Designer who's ready to take that next step. You'll work on exciting, visually driven campaigns and creative projects, bringing ideas to life across digital, social, and integrated channels. We're looking for someone who can think conceptually but also loves getting into the details of design, from typography and layout to visual storytelling and execution.

An interest in gaming, fantasy, pop culture, or collectible card games is a big plus. You'll have the opportunity to work on projects that speak to passionate fan communities, so an appreciation for the creativity and culture behind these worlds would be an asset.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Concept and art direct creative campaigns across digital, social, content, and integrated platforms.
  • Develop strong visual concepts, design directions, and creative ideas from initial brief through final execution.
  • Stay hands-on with design, creating layouts, key visuals, mood boards, and polished creative assets.
  • Collaborate with Copywriters, Designers, Creative Directors, Strategists, and Producers to bring ideas to life.
  • Help establish and maintain a cohesive visual direction across campaigns and deliverables.
  • Translate creative briefs into engaging, visually compelling work that connects with audiences and fan communities.
  • Present creative concepts and design rationale to internal teams and clients.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback and guidance to other Designers while maintaining a high standard of creative craft.
  • Explore new visual styles, design trends, and creative approaches to keep the work fresh and relevant.
  • Balance multiple projects and deadlines without compromising creativity or attention to detail.

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in design and creative roles, ideally within an advertising, digital, or creative agency.
  • A strong foundation in graphic design, with a career path rooted in hands-on design work.
  • A portfolio showcasing exceptional visual craft, conceptual thinking, and art direction across digital, social, or integrated campaigns.
  • Strong skills in typography, composition, colour, layout, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Experience with Figma is a plus.
  • The ability to develop big creative ideas while also executing the design work needed to bring them to life.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Copywriters and other creative disciplines.
  • A strong understanding of how creative ideas translate across different formats and platforms.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate creative thinking clearly.
  • A collaborative attitude, curiosity, and a genuine passion for design and creativity.

Bonus Points

  • Experience playing Magic: The Gathering is a plus.
  • Experience working with gaming, entertainment, fantasy, or pop culture brands.
  • An interest in trading card games, tabletop gaming, fantasy worlds, collectibles, or gaming communities.
  • Experience creating visually rich, illustration-led, or highly stylized campaign work.
  • Familiarity with fan-driven marketing, product launches, or community-focused campaigns.
  • Experience with motion design, animation, or collaborating closely with motion teams.
  • A passion for storytelling, world-building, and creating work that resonates with dedicated audiences.

Additional Info

  • Monday - Thursday in office (Fridays are remote optional)
  • Flexible time off, including paid vacation and sick days
  • Consistent culture and team-building events
  • Employee recognition and incentive programs
  • Seasonal celebrations and gatherings throughout the year
  • Office lunches
  • Branded company swag
  • Access to industry events, learning opportunities, and non-profit outreaches
  • Dog-friendly offices
  • Unlimited coffee, drinks, and snacks
  • Flex work and travel options
  • Comprehensive extended health benefits

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
