The posting

The Thuma team is looking to hire a Product Development Manager. This role is centered on bringing design vision to life. You will partner closely with Design, Sourcing, Merchandising, and external manufacturing partners to develop thoughtfully designed, high-quality products that align with Thuma’s aesthetic, quality standards, and cost goals.

This position will own development timelines, ensure product integrity, and identify opportunities to improve quality, innovation, and speed to market while assisting in the end-to-end product development process across key categories—from concept through production readiness.

Thuma’s Headquarters is based in the historic Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. This is a hybrid role that will be in office 3 - 5 days a week.

You Will

  • Execute end-to-end product development lifecycle for assigned categories, from concept through commercialization
  • Partner closely with Design to bring concepts to life while maintaining brand intent, quality, and cost targets
  • Collaborate with Sourcing to identify and engage the right manufacturing partners
  • Drive development timelines, ensuring milestones are met and risks are flagged early
  • Support prototyping and iteration cycles to refine design, materials, and overall product experience
  • Manage day-to-day communication with vendors throughout the development process
  • Partner with Sourcing on cost targets and value optimization without compromising design integrity
  • Help refine product specifications and documentation to support clear execution
  • Partner with Sourcing and Compliance to ensure products meet regulatory and quality standards
  • Support pilot runs and ensure readiness for production
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure a smooth transition from development to production and launch
  • Identify opportunities to improve development processes, tools, and ways of working
  • Contribute to innovation in materials, finishes, and overall product experience
  • Support special projects and new category exploration
  • Review vendor specifications, finishes and CAD drawings to confirm alignment with design intent
  • Access prototype quality and craftsmanship, create quality control summaries to share with manufacturing partners
  • Flexibility to join evening calls with international manufacturing partners

This Might Describe You

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Development or related roles within furniture and home furnishings
  • Familiarity with CAD software and ability to review technical drawings
  • Strong understanding of furniture materials, construction, and manufacturing processes
  • Proven ability to manage multiple product timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with domestic and international manufacturing partners
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach
  • Ability to balance design intent with cost and production considerations
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Outstanding project management skills: highly organized problem solver, detail-oriented and diligent with follow-up
  • Experience with product testing and quality standards is a plus
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity within a fast paced environment
  • Cultural awareness and experience working with global partners

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
