Family Medicine Residency Core Faculty
Inpatient Adult Medicine Curriculum Lead About the Role Are you a family medicine physician who loves teaching, thrives on inpatient medicine, and wants to help build a residency program from the ground up? Thundermist Health Center is launching a new Family Medicine Residency in affiliation with Tufts University School of Medicine, and we’re looking for a Core Faculty Member to lead the inpatient adult medicine curriculum. You’ll lead the family medicine inpatient team at Landmark Medical Center, develop inpatient rotation curriculum, precept residents in clinic, and maintain your own primary care panel at Thundermist. Your time splits roughly 50/50 between residency education and clinical practice. Thundermist is a multi-site FQHC serving over 65,000 patients across Rhode Island, based in Woonsocket — a diverse and medically underserved community just 20 minutes from Providence and 45 minutes from Boston. What You’ll Do Clinical Practice
Manage a primary care panel at Thundermist Health Center with approximately 16 hours per week of patient-facing clinic time Provide inpatient hospital services on the family medicine teaching service at Landmark Medical Center (averaging one week of daytime call out of every three) Participate in after-hours phone call coverage rotation (approximately 2–3 weeks per year, with nurse triage service as first line) Prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostics, and coordinate care across disciplines and settings Opportunities to practice in areas of interest including OBAT, obstetrics, osteopathic manipulative medicine, and more
Residency Education & Curriculum
Teach and supervise residents on the family medicine inpatient service at Landmark Medical Center Lead curriculum development for inpatient medicine rotations Serve as the residency liaison to the hospitalist and internal medicine academic service at the hospital Precept residents in outpatient continuity clinics Train family medicine clerkship medical students through Tufts School of Medicine Participate in family medicine didactics, resident mentorship, evaluation, recruitment, and program improvement
Administrative
Dedicate approximately 4 hours per week to clinical administrative duties Participate in departmental and team meetings Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements Participate in quality improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For You’re a family physician who’s as comfortable rounding on a teaching service as you are managing a complex panel in community primary care. You’re drawn to academic medicine, energized by teaching, and committed to training the next generation of family doctors in a community that needs them.
M.D. or D.O. with completed residency (minimum 3 years) in Family Medicine Ability to obtain a full, unrestricted Rhode Island medical license Clinical experience on an inpatient adult medicine teaching service Ability to obtain and maintain hospital privileges at Landmark Medical Center Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Preferred:
Board Certification in Family Medicine (ABFM or ACOFP) within two years of start Minimum 2 years of post-residency practice Skills in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)

You’ll be supported by AI scribes, refill assistance with pharmacy technicians, prior authorization and referral support, cross-coverage support for PTO, and a nurse triage service as the first line for after-hours calls. Schedule This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position. Approximately 50% of your time (20 hours) is reserved for residency education and administration — hospital rounding, precepting, curriculum development, and program administration. Of the remaining 20 hours, 16 hours are patient-facing in your own primary care clinic and 4 hours are dedicated to clinical administrative duties. The schedule averages one week of hospital daytime call out of every three, with non-hospital weeks comprising clinic and administrative responsibilities. Some periods of 24-hour phone call coverage are included. Work Environment
