The salary for this position is $4,835 - $6,302 per month.

Job Information
Court Security Officers are limited commissioned officers who provide armed protection and security for the Thurston County Superior, Family, Juvenile, and District Court facilities. Responsibilities include conducting security screening functions in court facilities; maintaining order and ensuring the personal safety and security of judges, staff, and the public; responding to court facility emergency alarms; and responding to calls for security services and assistance. This position may be required to detain individuals and prepare appropriate reports.
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Operating screening monitors, walk-through magnetometers, x-ray package scanners, and handheld wands.
- Conducting hand searches of personally carried items to inspect for potentially dangerous objects.
- Securing and processing weapons when necessary.
- Monitoring courtrooms and facilities via closed circuit cameras.
- Controlling and limiting public access to the court facilities to reduce security risk and ensure public safety.
- Responding to various alarms and assisting with building evacuations.
- Providing general information, direction, and assistance to the public.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Must meet Thurston County Civil Service Pre-Employment Screening Standards which can be viewed here: Civil Service | Thurston County
- Pursuant to RCW 41.14.100, must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient with the ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Acceptable scores on any required Civil Service examinations.
- Two year’s law enforcement or corrections experience.
- Graduate from a Washington State Basic or Reserve Law Enforcement Academy, Correctional Academy, or equivalent training from a certified law enforcement program; or federal law enforcement experience (e.g. Military Police) or certified as a federal law enforcement officer (e.g. FBI, DEA).
- Qualified law enforcement or correctional experience that includes a firearms program with a use of force component can be considered if it meets Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission requirements.
- Must be able to qualify in the use of a handgun, with requirement to successfully re-qualify with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office annually.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation which may include, but is not limited to employment history, criminal history, psychological, and /or polygraph examinations.
- Upon hire must maintain a valid First Aid Card, including CPR, with a certification in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
