Trusted by 800+ campuses and learning communities, TimelyCare surrounds students with support at all levels of need, from everyday well-being and skill-building to on-demand emotional support, coaching, counseling, psychiatry, medical care, basic needs assistance and crisis support. With URAC accreditations in Telehealth and AI in Health Care, a clinically governed provider network, peer-reviewed outcomes research and audited care quality, TimelyCare helps institutions reach students earlier, connect them to the right support and foster healthier learning communities.

The Role

The Executive Director of Medical Services reports to the Chief Care Officer and leads the day-to-day clinical operations of TimelyCare's Medical Services and Psychiatry teams. This is a highly visible, working clinical leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, timely, high-quality care for students across a complex, multi-state virtual-care environment. The ideal candidate is a Board Certified MD or DO with over 10 years of clinical experience—including at least 3 years in telehealth—and 7+ years of progressive leadership over multidisciplinary teams. Candidates must hold active, unrestricted physician licenses in all 50 states and DC, though individuals holding licenses in a substantial majority of jurisdictions may be considered if they demonstrate a credible, time-bound plan to achieve full licensure and meet TimelyCare’s coverage needs.

The Executive Director serves as a primary clinical coverage resource, directly stepping in to address patient-care and scheduling gaps when providers are unavailable or coverage needs change unexpectedly. The role combines approximately 50% dedicated clinical care, 25% flexible coverage and service-line support, and 25% administrative leadership, with flexibility to respond to patient, provider, client, and business needs. This role is also accountable for staffing, quality, provider performance, supervision planning, licensure coverage, and implementation of clinical operating practices that support continuity of care.

The Executive Director is the principal clinical escalation point for internal and external partners, including Sales, Customer Experience, campus stakeholders, and clients. They bring clinical judgment to prospective-client discussions, care-quality concerns, continuity-of-care issues, and other high-risk or sensitive escalations.

Within the role's defined authority, the Executive Director identifies service-line needs and leads implementation of practical solutions. This includes provider incentive programs, care-efficiency and cost-saving opportunities, supervision capacity planning, regulatory monitoring, and recommendations to Product, Operations, and executive leadership regarding needed changes to Medical Services.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct clinical care for approximately 50% of the role, maintaining a consistent patient-care presence and supporting the quality of the clinical model.
  • Serve as the primary clinical coverage back-up, directly filling patient-care and scheduling gaps caused by planned or unplanned provider absences, unexpected demand, and cross-state coverage constraints.
  • Maintain active, unrestricted physician licenses in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Candidates licensed in the substantial majority of jurisdictions may be considered when they have a credible, time-bound plan to complete remaining licenses and can meet TimelyCare's coverage requirements.
  • Lead and develop the Medical Services team of MD and NP providers and the Psychiatry team of MD and NP providers, including staffing, onboarding, performance management, engagement, quality, and accountability.
  • Create and maintain coverage and scheduling approaches that protect continuity of care, patient access, and appropriate utilization of available clinical resources.
  • Plan and ensure completion of personal and team supervision requirements, including physician supervision agreements and state-specific documentation where required.
  • Serve as the principal clinical escalation point and a trusted client-facing partner for Sales, Customer Experience, campus stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Participate in pre-sale clinical discussions, client concerns, quality and continuity-of-care matters, and high-risk care escalations.
  • Implement practical service-line improvements within defined authority, including provider incentive programs, care-efficiency and cost-saving opportunities, and supervision capacity planning.
  • Translate clinical needs into actionable recommendations and implementation plans for Product, Operations, and leadership, while recognizing established decision-making authority for product and budget changes.
  • Monitor and communicate applicable clinical and regulatory changes; act as the clinical spokesperson for necessary Medical Services changes.
  • Use wait-time, access, licensure, quality, utilization, and cost data to identify opportunities and improve clinical operations and patient experience.

What You Bring

  • Board Certified MD or DO with 10+ years in a clinical setting with at least 7 years in progressive leadership of a multidisciplinary team
  • Active, unrestricted physician licenses in all 50 states and the District of Columbia required. Candidates holding licenses in the substantial majority of jurisdictions may be considered when they can demonstrate a credible, time-bound plan to complete remaining licenses and meet TimelyCare's coverage needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a distributed, multistate clinical service line while maintaining direct clinical practice
  • Experience building and managing provider coverage models, including response to planned and unplanned absences, changing demand, and cross-state licensure constraints.
  • Experience leading and developing physicians, advanced practice providers, or multidisciplinary clinical teams, including performance management, quality oversight, and supervision planning - to be the best they can be for their patients and their colleagues
  • Strong judgment and communication skills in high-stakes patient-care, client, and cross-functional escalations.
  • Experience using quality, access, utilization, wait-time, licensure, and cost data to improve clinical operations and patient experience.
  • Ability to translate clinical needs into actionable recommendations for Product, Operations, Sales, Customer Experience, and executive leadership, while operating effectively within established decision-making authority.
  • Experience and familiarity with virtual-care delivery, applicable state practice requirements, provider supervision requirements, and evolving healthcare regulations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of telehealth experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
