Key Responsibilities

Turn your interest in science, buildings and the environment into a specialist technical career. Join Tetra Tech’s established Asset Management team and combine hands-on engineering experience with a Level 3 apprenticeship, specialist training and the opportunity to make a real difference to building safety.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

Develop the technical expertise to identify, assess and manage asbestos-related risks across a diverse range of domestic, commercial and industrial properties. Combining structured learning with practical site experience, you’ll work alongside experienced consultants across London, the South East and wider UK, including historic buildings and complex industrial environments.

No degree or previous asbestos experience is required. You’ll receive expert mentoring and specialist training to build your knowledge, confidence and competence.

Your Impact in this position

Help protect building users, employees, contractors and the public by developing the skills to undertake asbestos surveys, air monitoring and analytical work. As your experience grows, you’ll take on greater responsibility, working towards independent practice through successful training, competence assessments and internal authorisation within Tetra Tech’s UKAS-accredited systems.

Core Capabilities

  • Technical Learning and Development – Embrace structured training, hands-on experience and mentoring to build specialist knowledge and progress in your career.
  • Safety and Quality Focus – Follow procedures, legislation and regulatory requirements with care in safety-critical environments.
  • Observation and Attention to Detail – Take a methodical approach to site inspections, sampling, monitoring and accurate technical reporting.
  • Communication and Client Service – Build effective working relationships and communicate professionally with clients, contractors, colleagues and the public.
  • Problem Solving and Digital Capability – Interpret technical data, maintain reliable records and use digital tools to resolve challenges.

About You

You’re someone who prefers being out on site rather than behind a desk, and you’re comfortable working in environments like construction, demolition, or industrial settings. Early starts, travel, and changing locations don’t put you off — in fact, you enjoy the variety and the sense of purpose that comes with hands-on work.

You take safety seriously and understand the importance of following procedures properly. Working to strict rules, method statements, and risk assessments feels natural to you, and you don’t cut corners. You’re calm, focused, and able to stay composed even in regulated environments where inspections, audits, or oversight are part of the job.

You’re practical by nature and learn best by doing. Repetition and routine don’t bother you — you see them as part of building consistency and getting things right every time. You’re comfortable using equipment, following technical processes, and working in PPE or RPE for extended periods when required.

You can work independently once trained, taking responsibility for your tasks, but you also communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors to make sure work is completed safely and correctly. You’re motivated by doing work that matters — contributing to environmental safety, compliance, and protecting public health.

You value clear expectations, stability, and progression. You’re interested in building a long-term career, developing your skills step by step, and moving forward into roles such as surveyor or analyst over time.

Please note: You must be 18+ due to the nature of the working environment Please note: This role may be subject to background or security checks Please note: A full UK driving licence is required for this role

Apprenticeship Eligibility

To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:

✔️ Be 18 or over ✔️ Not be in full-time education ✔️ Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years ✔️ Have the right to work in the UK

Apprenticeships are designed to provide new knowledge, skills and behaviours, so applicants should not already hold a Level 3, degree or higher qualification in a closely related subject, or have significant experience in the same field.

If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, we’d still love to hear from you - get in touch and we can advise you further.

So how does the apprenticeship work?

Start your career as an asbestos site technician and gain hands-on experience supporting essential surveying, air monitoring, and inspection work in real-world environments.

As part of this Level 3 Asbestos Site Technician apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance activities, applying recognised industry methods to produce accurate, compliant, and legally defensible results.

Over 12 months, you’ll combine day-to-day experience in your role with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro. Our blended learning approach includes a mix of online sessions, in-person training, and hands-on support, alongside guidance from a dedicated mentor in the workplace.

You’ll spend at least 6 hours per week on off-the-job training, including virtual learning, practical activities, and applied assignments.

What your training will look like:

You’ll follow a structured programme combining live sessions, online learning, and hands-on workplace training to build your skills step by step.

As part of your training, you’ll also work towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures, a recognised qualification within the asbestos industry.

What could your future look like?

This apprenticeship will help you build the skills and experience needed to start your career as an asbestos site technician and progress within the asbestos management industry.

Through hands-on training, you’ll develop the competence and confidence to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance testing in line with regulatory requirements. You’ll work in safety-critical environments, following strict compliance standards and contributing to protecting people, property, and the wider environment. This programme can also lead to professional recognition, such as becoming a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).

You’ll gain experience that’s highly valued in a regulated and essential industry, opening up opportunities to grow and specialise within asbestos surveying, air monitoring, and related technical roles.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
