Do you have a successful track record of cultivating, nurturing, and fostering relationships and a desire to lead efforts to expand and enhance the engineering services we offer to current and prospective mining clients? If so, we have an exciting, challenging, and rewarding opportunity for you to join our Mining Engineering team as the Mining Market Manager for the Southwest Region!

As the Mining Market Manager, you will advance our engineering services within the mining market sector around Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. You will develop and implement business plans that focus on enhancing capabilities and increasing awareness of our service offerings to secure surface mining projects and contract opportunities that align with annual and 5-year strategic revenue and profit goals.

As a member our team, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplined group of architectural and engineering professionals (civil, mechanical, electrical, structural) to cross-sell services throughout the firm, identify prospective and strategic clients and project opportunities, track and respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs), and prepare for interviews and presentations. You will also collaborate with Project Managers to define project scope and scheduling requirements, negotiate contracts, determine staffing assignments for project teams, establish design standards, review design plans for technical quality and accuracy, and monitor expenditures and budget parameters. You will play a vital role in cultivating and maintaining relations with technical and industry leaders by leading outreach programs, attending networking events, and actively participating in committees and associations. On occasion, you may also assume the role of Project Manager or Project Engineer depending on the size of the project or the technical / design requirements.

Location and Work Arrangement

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining or Structural Engineering.
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience designing, commissioning, or managing a portfolio of mining, facility, and infrastructure projects; crushing, conveying, slurry and water pumping and pipelines, ore concentrating plants, plant and enabling infrastructure.
  • Minimum of five years of multi-disciplined project management experience with a reputation for providing superior customer service and a successful track record of effectively managing client expectations, project scope, fee estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Minimum of two years of business development experience demonstrated by a track record of cultivating, nurturing, and deepening client relations and an ability to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities to increase revenue and improve market share.
  • Thorough understanding of the mining industry operations with emphasis on processing, and infrastructure; ability to identify trends, suggest solutions, and guide clients’ ideas into functional and buildable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills when developing proposals, preparing technical reports and documentation, conducting project interviews, leading team meetings, and engaging in discussions related to market and divisional operations.
  • Working knowledge of design applications including Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 20% overnight to conduct on-site consultations, lead or participate in project meetings, and attend business development and industry events.
  • Prior experience engaging in business development activities - including proposal preparations, development of scope and fee estimates, and facilitation / leading of capabilities or qualifications presentations.
  • Demonstrated track record of securing project opportunities with established, emerging, and prospective clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop a team of mechanical engineering professionals consisting of registered engineers, designers, and technicians with varying competencies, knowledge, qualifications, and experience.
  • Superior focus on quality demonstrated by an ability adhere to design requirements, utilize and/or implement thorough quality review measures, and continuously evaluate practices to ensure technical accuracy and enhance project delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and advancing a culture of safety excellence that emphasizes employee training, project / site risk assessment and mitigation, and strict adherence to all internal and external safety policies, requirements, and regulations.
  • Ability to travel – locally, regionally, and nationally – as needed to conduct on-site consultations, participate in client meetings, facilitate business development and market development activities, attend professional conferences, and visit TKDA office locations.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable State / Federal Agency or Governing Authority design standards and deliverable requirements; Demonstrated ability to exercise authority in addressing design challenges related to area of specialization.

Advantageous Qualifications

  • Previous employment with a major mining company in an engineering, processing, or management role.
  • Previous experience designing or managing a portfolio of mining operations, facilities, and infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Registration.
  • Master degree.
  • Previous experience developing and effectively implementing annual business plans and multi-year strategic plans to meet project, market, division, and corporate revenue and profit goals.
  • Previous experience coaching, mentoring, and developing a team of engineering professionals.
  • Active member in professional activities, societies and organizations.
  • Previous experience contributing to the development of key client engagement and development plans, annual business plans, and strategic market development plans.
