The posting

Not an Airport Engineer? Let's Change That!

We’re looking for a professional civil engineer to work alongside a team of aviation enthusiasts. Whether you consider yourself a seasoned airport engineer or not, our answer is the same – great! Many of the skills that make civil engineers successful in aviation are transferable from surface transportation, municipal, and site development projects. In fact, most of our team members started their careers in areas outside aviation before they discovered the fascinating world of airport and airfield infrastructure design.

Our team includes experienced airport engineers, planners, and technical specialists who are passionate about sharing their expertise, mentoring teammates, and helping others grow. That said, we want to know more about your curiosity and eagerness to learn, your ability to collaborate across disciplines and geographies, and your passion to design solutions for whatever engineering challenge is presented to you. We’ll take it from there and provide the support, technical guidance, and hands-on project experience needed to build a rewarding career in this unique field within our industry.

No matter where you’re coming from, we can teach you all there is to know about runway rehabilitation, airfield improvements, airport planning and development, and FAA standards – not to mention all the acronyms and abbreviations. In other words, we can teach airport design all day, every day. We can’t teach curiosity.

Why TKDA?

What You'll Do

  • Support the planning, design, and construction of aviation and transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Contribute to projects involving runways, taxiways, aprons, utilities, drainage systems, roadways, fueling facilities, security enhancements, and other airport infrastructure.
  • Participate throughout the entire project lifecycle, from planning and conceptual design through construction administration and closeout.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design documents, technical reports, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Work alongside engineers, planners, designers, technicians, and project managers to deliver creative and practical solutions.
  • Learn from experienced aviation professionals who are passionate about mentoring and developing the next generation of airport engineers.
  • Expand your technical expertise through hands-on project experience, training opportunities, and collaboration with industry experts.
  • Participate in client meetings, project presentations, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Assist with proposal development, project pursuits, and business development efforts.
  • Represent TKDA as a trusted advisor and partner to airport clients and project stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or the ability to obtain registration within six (6) months of employment.
  • Approximately 5-15 years of engineering experience in aviation, transportation, municipal, site development, or related infrastructure projects consisting of roadway design, utilities, grading, drainage, and/or stormwater management.
  • Interest in leading project tasks and contributing to project delivery, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination efforts.
  • Experience preparing engineering plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to travel periodically (approximately 10-20%) for project meetings, site visits, conferences, and client engagements.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience with Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.
  • Experience supporting airfield or airport infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, standards, and funding programs.
  • Experience preparing proposals and contract documents.
  • Previous project coordination or leadership experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
