A Day in the Life:

The typical day is... atypical. You may be advising a senior leader on organizational design, guiding a manager through a performance conversation, analyzing talent trends, supporting a critical hire, or leading an annual Talent process.

As a Director, Talent Business Partner, you will play a leadership role in supporting the full employee lifecycle for your assigned departments. You will partner closely with business leaders and Talent colleagues to translate business priorities into practical people strategies that strengthen organizational effectiveness, talent development, performance, and engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Talent Business Partnering: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing insights and recommendations on talent initiatives that advance business goals. Use data and analytics to identify trends, anticipate concerns, and partner with leaders on targeted solutions. Support diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies that foster an inclusive workplace.
  • Organization & Workforce Planning: Partner with business leaders and teams to assess organizational structure, workforce needs, capabilities, and future talent requirements. Assist in organization design, headcount planning, role scoping and leveling, succession planning, and workforce transitions. Assist in recommendations and business cases that balance organizational effectiveness, business priorities, talent needs, and financial considerations.
  • Organizational Development: Partner with leaders to develop and execute workforce and organizational strategies. Advise on organizational design, workforce planning, change management, and programs that improve effectiveness and productivity. Reinforce a high-performance culture through clear expectations, accountability, and talent practices.
  • Talent Acquisition: Partner with department leaders, hiring managers, and Talent Acquisition to identify capability gaps and build effective recruiting plans. Support the development of job descriptions, candidate assessment, selection decisions, and an effective onboarding experience.
  • Employee Relations and Performance Management: Manage complex employee relations matters with a focus on fair resolution, sound judgment, consistency, and risk mitigation. Coach managers on performance management best practices, timely feedback, documentation, and employee support. Identify talent or capability gaps and recommend training, coaching, or other interventions.
  • Engagement Effectiveness: Partner with business leaders to interpret employee engagement insights, identify organizational themes, and translate feedback into meaningful action plans. Continue to support engagement yearly through skip level and team meetings.
  • Annual and Standard Talent Processes: Lead assigned departments through annual and recurring processes, including performance evaluations, compensation, promotions, talent reviews, engagement initiatives, and compliance training. Provide day-to-day guidance on Company policies and procedures, leaves of absence, employee transitions, and exit interviews.
  • Leadership and Team Development: As the function evolves, lead and/or mentor other Talent Business Partners by providing direction, coaching, and development opportunities that strengthen team capability and service to the business.

To Land This Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience as a Talent/HR Business Partner or HR Generalist, including experience advising senior leaders.
  • Experience supporting a retail, creative, consumer, or commercial organization is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence effectively at all levels.
  • Outstanding judgment and strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to make timely, proactive recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience organization design, workforce planning, talent planning, compensation, performance management, and complex employee relations.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, exercise discretion, and manage competing needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect talent strategy and people decisions to business outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for business, development, and recruitment purposes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
