This role will be based out of Seattle or Northern California, within proximity to our store locations and requires travel to the assigned region. This role will support field execution, audits, investigations, training, and partnership with store and regional leadership across Washington and California retail locations. This role requires expertise in Washington wage and hour requirements, meal and rest break rules, employee timekeeping, and the ability to apply California meal and rest break, timekeeping, and other compliance obligations for the California locations within scope. This role will partner closely with Store Operations, Human Resources, Payroll, Legal, and field leaders to support consistent execution of company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

The Manager, Operations Compliance will proactively identify compliance risks, conduct audits and root cause analyses, evaluate trends, recommend corrective action, and help build scalable processes, reporting, and training that reinforce accountability and reduce organizational risk.

As a member of the HR Compliance team, you will be expected to act with a high degree of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality while balancing business partnership with strong compliance judgment. This role will report to the Senior Manger, HR Compliance.

You will

  • Serve as a compliance partner and subject matter resource for assigned operational requirements, including wage and hour practices, meal and rest periods, timekeeping, workplace safety, and related company policies for the region within scope.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve HR compliance programs, tools, guidance, and governance documentation that support consistent execution across California locations.
  • Conduct compliance audits, investigations, data reviews, and root cause analyses; identify trends and recommend corrective actions that address gaps and mitigate risk.
  • Create compliance reporting, dashboards, risk assessments, and business updates that provide leaders with actionable insights into performance, trends, and emerging risks.
  • Partner with Store Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Payroll, and field leadership to support compliance readiness, resolve issues, and reinforce accountability.
  • Design and deliver practical compliance training and communications that help leaders understand requirements, apply company policies, and sustain compliant practices.
  • Travel periodically to California to conduct store visits, support audits, deliver training, observe operational practices, and partner directly with field leaders.
  • Lead HR Compliance initiatives and cross-functional projects that strengthen processes, improve documentation, and support measurable compliance outcomes.
  • Monitor applicable legislative, regulatory, and policy changes; translate requirements into practical recommendations, process improvements, and business-ready compliance solutions.

You will come with

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in HR compliance within a corporate setting, supporting labor compliance, retail operations compliance, workforce management, payroll compliance, investigations, auditing, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Washington and California wage and hour requirements, meal and rest break rules, timekeeping practices, workplace safety requirements, and operational compliance controls; multi-state experience preferred.
  • Proven experience conducting audits or investigations, analyzing large (district/regional) employee populations, identifying trends, and translating findings into clear corrective action plans.
  • Proven experience developing reporting, dashboards, metrics, or executive-ready summaries that communicate risk, progress, and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, documentation, and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence, coach, and build credibility with leaders across multiple levels of the organization, including field and corporate partners.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience using workforce management, timekeeping, case management, or HR systems; Workday, Reflexis, or similar platforms preferred.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
