What’s in it for you?

As a Power Electronics Applications Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing next-generation electrical systems for Trane Technologies’ premier climate control products, with a heavy emphasis on our industry-leading industrial chillers. This role is housed within the Electric Systems and Components (ESC) group—a key branch of our global Advanced Concepts and Capabilities team in Corporate Engineering. Our mission is to identify, develop, and deploy leading-edge technologies that directly enable sustainable product growth and establish our businesses at the absolute cutting edge of the industry.

By joining this team, you will directly support Trane Technologies' flagship Gigaton Challenge, which aims to reduce our customers' carbon footprint by 1 Gigaton of CO2e by 2030 through aggressive electrification and decarbonization. Many of our most exciting challenges lie in creating the world's most efficient electric systems to support the rapid infrastructure growth of the global data center industry. You will have the unique opportunity to influence our strategic technical direction by demonstrating the viability of next-generation technologies within our product portfolio and building strong relationships with key external innovation partners.

This highly visible role is designed for an engineer looking to combine technical excellence with strategic career growth. Operating within corporate engineering gives you the platform to network across the entire global enterprise, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and regularly engage with leadership at all levels. You will be empowered to drive technical strategy, manage your own initiatives, and see your designs directly translate into critical, real-world sustainability wins.

What Will You Do?

  • Project Leadership & Execution: Act as a self-guided owner of your projects. Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, achieve scheduled milestones, and proactively identify quality and productivity improvement opportunities.
  • Participate on teams to work through customer issues to make choices to keep Trane Technologies at the forefront of technology. Filing to patents on intellectual property to novel solutions as you translate end-product solutions into system and power electronic module requirements.
  • Electric Systems Design, Simulation and Concepting: Use your expertise in multiple power electronic topologies to develop DC-DC converters, AC-DC-AC power conversion units, and other advanced devices. Translate end-product duty cycles into detailed requirements and model thermal management, EMC/EMI compliance, and motor control algorithms.
  • System Modeling & Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis and model-based simulations of electromechanical rotational machines, power electronics, and control systems using tools such as Matlab/Simulink/SimScape, PSIM, and PLECS.
  • Product & Laboratory Qualification: Develop laboratory test plans, select and define strategic testing equipment, and lead qualification testing. Analyze test data and prepare comprehensive technical reports to ensure design reliability, durability, and safety.
  • Supplier & Supply Chain Integration: Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement teams to support supplier onboarding and part-release workflows (including engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Network across the enterprise to identify opportunities to integrate new technologies. Partner with product teams, customers, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and keep Trane Technologies at the cutting edge.

What You Will Bring:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Engineering Physics. A minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical engineering work experience.

Key Competencies:

  • Domain Interest: A strong interest in HVAC applications, operating conditions for industrial refrigeration equipment, and the application of battery energy storage systems.
  • Analytical & Simulation Expertise: Experience with electric systems simulation software (MATLAB SimScape, PLECs) and ability to present data showing why a particular architecture is preferred over another.
  • Systems & Controls Integration: Strong understanding of embedded control systems with the ability to specify and integrate different modules into a functioning system. Experience with system communications, message databases, and analysis tools is preferred. Custom engineering development scripts to run design verification tests.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. You must be adept at translating complex technical information and presenting it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project Management & Initiative: Self-motivated and capable of managing small-scale projects, establishing clear priorities, tracking risks/obstacles, and executing to tight deadlines.
  • Software Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint) to track project milestones and draft engineering documentation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
