The posting

Event & Catering Assistant

Organization: BC Dental Study Club

Location: Downtown Vancouver

Position Type: Casual, Weekends

Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break

Salary Range: $28 to $30 per hour, depending on experience

Who We Are

The BC Dental Study Club runs hands-on continuing education courses for dentists from our teaching space in downtown Vancouver.

The Role

We're looking for someone to join our events team on course weekends, working alongside our event lead to make sure everything runs smoothly for participants and instructors, from the first pot of coffee to the final reset.

No dental experience is needed. We'll train you on everything specific to our courses.

What You'll Do

  • Run the kitchen through the day: brew coffee, prepare milk and hot water, plate food, stock the fridge, and keep dishes moving so the kitchen stays clean and organized
  • Set up breakfast and snacks before participants arrive, and keep food, drinks and supplies stocked all day
  • Help welcome participants at registration and coat check
  • Run the room from an iPad control: lights, shades and music for lectures and breaks
  • Keep instructors set up with water and coffee
  • Hand out and collect hands-on kits and materials, and reset stations between sessions
  • Keep the room tidy through the day by clearing dishes, cups and garbage
  • Walk participants to and from lunch at a nearby restaurant
  • Clean up, put the kitchen back in order, pack materials and reset the room at the end of each day

Schedule

  • Around 35 weekend days in 2027, mostly in spring and fall
  • Some courses start on a Friday. Friday shifts are optional and available if you'd like more hours
  • The full year's dates are shared in advance so you can plan around them
  • Occasional chances to travel with the team to courses in the US and across Canada, with travel costs covered

Who We're Looking For

  • Experience in hotels, banquets, catering, events, or a busy café or restaurant
  • Reliable and on time for a 7:30 AM start
  • You notice what needs doing and do it before anyone asks
  • Warm and polished with professionals, and comfortable staying in the background during lectures
  • Comfortable running a busy kitchen and keeping it spotless
  • Comfortable on your feet all day and able to lift boxes and supplies
  • A valid passport is an asset for travel

Our Ideal Candidate

You’re someone who takes pride in a day that runs smoothly, keeping the coffee hot, the room ready and the kitchen spotless without needing to be asked. You’re happiest staying a step ahead and working quietly in the background, and you take the same care with the final reset as you do with the first setup of the morning. If you’re looking for steady weekend work with a team that values reliability and attention to detail, we’d love to hear from you.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
