The posting

Since the late 1800's, the Transtar companies consist of a group of rail carriers have been an important component in this country's industrial development. Moving billions of tons of raw materials to manufacturing sites. Transporting finished products to market. Storing and handling bulk commodities. Providing rail transport services to hundreds of satisfied customers throughout the nation's industrial heartland. Job Summary Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain company vehicles, heavy off-track equipment, roadway machinery. Primary Activities and Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Troubleshoot and perform heavy repairs to all types of equipment components including gas and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, various work heads, booms, electrical systems and conveyor belt systems Solve work related problems, make decisions, and provide instructions Understand mechanical operations of machinery Drive heavy duty service truck, including truck mounted crane May be required to pull trailers

  Pay Rate Hourly pay rate (current Op Tech 3 rate $39.62/hour) information is subject to change based on Collective Bargaining Agreement and, if applicable, may vary by location. Railroad Retirement Position   Training You will be required to attend paid training as required by your collective bargaining agreement. Please note that training may occur outside of your work location. Minimum Qualifications

High School/GED 21 years of age or older Valid Driver's License Four years experience as a mechanic (Journeyman Status) Welding experience Read and understand schematic drawings Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, and pneumatic systems as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of roadway machinery

  Preferred Qualifications

Commercial Driver's License (B CDL) ASE Certification

  Basic Competencies

Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications-both general and technical) Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills) Mechanical aptitude  

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to meet and comply with the manufacturer’s weight limitation safety rating and recommendations for any equipment associated with performing their duties, including the 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (both portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection

 Employment Conditions

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained immediately upon being hired Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work Complete annual training and pass safety and track worker rules examination May require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol Must pass all required assessments Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug screen and CDL physical Extensive travel may be required depending on the job assignment This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement; membership is required Must pass a background screening
