TreQ accelerates the path to useful quantum computing by designing, deploying, and operating open-architecture quantum computing infrastructure that evolves as quantum technologies advance. Our team brings together engineers, operators, and builders who enjoy solving hard problems and working across disciplines.
Founded in 2023 and following on from notable success over the past year TreQ is now looking to hire a Director of Manufacturing & Deployment Operations. Based in Milton Park, Oxfordshire, OX14 4SA this is a full-time, permanent role.
As Director of Manufacturing and Deployment Operations, your primary responsibility will be for turning Engineering’s prototypes into repeatable system builds and leading customer deployments through installation, commissioning and acceptance. Working closely with Engineering, you will mature manufacturing practices, documentation and team capability, while owning supply chain, import/export, quality, technical facilities and lifecycle support. Reporting directly to the CEO as a member of TreQ’s executive team, you will help shape the company’s growth while personally establishing the operations you will later scale.
Requirements
You will be responsible for:
- Building TreQ’s manufacturing team and capability, maturing prototypes into repeatable system builds and advancing manufacturing readiness (MRL) with Engineering
- Leading customer deployments through installation, commissioning and acceptance, and establish lifecycle support, maintenance and spares
- Owning supply chain, purchasing and inventory, including supplier performance, long-lead items, import/export compliance and international logistics
- Establishing quality and configuration-control practices, developing controlled procedures, work instructions, manuals and product records with Engineering
- Ensuring technical facilities and infrastructure are ready for system build and operation at TreQ and customer sites
You will be a fit if…
you know about:
- Manufacturing readiness, quality assurance and configuration management
- Technical supply chains, import/export and international logistics
- Commissioning, acceptance testing and lifecycle support for complex hardware
you have these skills and abilities:
- Translate engineering knowledge into clear procedures and work instructions
- Make sound trade-offs between cost, quality and delivery
- Resolve problems across engineering, suppliers and customers
- Do the work yourself or bring in contractors, while developing the team as TreQ grows
you’ve had experiences like these:
- Owning production and delivery of complex hardware in a commercial environment
- Bringing integrated systems into operation at customer sites
- Establishing an operational capability where the team, suppliers and processes were still taking shape
you like:
- Getting the details right, even when the work is less novel than the technology
- Creating enough structure to make work reliable without slowing people down
- Taking responsibility for the whole delivery, including the awkward gaps between functions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineering degree or related technical qualification, or equivalent practical experience
For this role you need not:
- Have worked in quantum computing
- Come from a large-scale manufacturing environment
- Have followed a traditional or linear career path
We value practical engineering experience as much as formal academic credentials. People join TreQ from industry, national laboratories, startups, academia, and military service. A PhD is not required for most roles. TreQ is a veteran-owned, woman-owned business and an equal opportunity employer. We hire based on capability, character, and the ability to contribute to our mission. If TreQ’s mission excites you but your experience doesn’t match every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply.
Additional Information:
Work Location & Collaboration
TreQ is a hands-on engineering organisation tackling complex systems at the frontier of computing. This work requires close collaboration, trust, and rapid iteration, so most roles work primarily in person where our teams design, build, and operate systems together. Some hybrid flexibility may be available, though candidates should expect to spend the majority of their time on-site with deployed teammates or in Oxford.
Export Control Work Authorisation Compliance
Some roles at TreQ involve access to technologies subject to export control laws in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions (including ITAR and EAR). Candidates for these roles must be eligible to access export-controlled technology without TreQ obtaining an export license. In accordance with applicable law, TreQ may also verify citizenship, immigration status, and the right to work where required. Certain roles may not be eligible for visa or export license sponsorship.
We believe that solving complex technical, scientific, and operational challenges requires a diversity of thought, background, and perspective. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive, barrier-free, and supportive workplace where every team member can thrive and perform at their best.
We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background. In full alignment with the UK Equality Act 2010, all hiring decisions are made strictly on merit, technical capability, and candidate potential. We want every applicant to have a positive, fair, and transparent recruitment experience. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments throughout all stages of our application, assessment, and interview process for candidates with disabilities, physical or mental health conditions, or neurodivergent requirements.
If you require any support, adjustments, or alternative information formats such as extended time for technical assessments, adjusted interview timings, accessible meeting spaces, or specific software compatibility, please inform our talent team.
