The Director will work closely with executive leadership and other practice leaders to develop new client relationships, strengthen existing partnerships, and deliver high-quality structural engineering solutions for transportation, municipal infrastructure, buildings, and other public-sector projects. This individual will serve as both a technical leader and trusted advisor while helping shape the future direction of the firm's structural engineering practice.

This role oversees a team of 12+ structural and geotechnical engineers.

Leadership & Practice Growth

  • Lead and manage the structural engineering practice, including strategic planning, staffing, financial performance, and business development.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies aligned with the firm's long-term business objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with public agencies, municipalities, county governments, state DOTs, and private-sector clients.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities while supporting proposal development and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with leadership across transportation, municipal, water resources, construction management, and other disciplines to pursue multidisciplinary projects.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for structural engineering projects.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record on complex structural projects when appropriate.
  • Establish engineering standards, best practices, and quality control procedures across the structural team.
  • Guide engineering teams through project planning, design, permitting, and construction support.
  • Review engineering calculations, reports, plans, specifications, and contract documents.

Project & Client Management

  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction objectives are achieved.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients and stakeholders.
  • Support project managers in resolving technical challenges and managing project risk.
  • Participate in project planning, resource allocation, and financial forecasting.

Team Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop structural engineering staff at all experience levels.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment focused on technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Support employee career development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or Structural Engineering.

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex structural engineering projects from proposal through construction.
  • Strong understanding of applicable structural design codes and industry standards.
  • Proven experience developing client relationships and generating new business.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with municipal, transportation, bridge, waterfront, infrastructure, and vertical building projects for public and private sector clients.
  • Existing relationships with New Jersey public agencies, counties, municipalities, or transportation clients.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with project management and financial management software.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
