This position reports to the Northeast Regional EHST Manager and works closely with Jeannette facility leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain facility EHS programs and procedures supporting regulated medical waste receiving, storage, treatment and processing, recovered material handling, and polymer lumber manufacturing.
  • Lead task and equipment risk assessments and job hazard analyses for routine and nonroutine activities, including startup, shutdown, cleaning, jam clearing, maintenance, and production changeovers. Prioritize engineering controls and verify the effectiveness of safeguards.
  • Coordinate machine safety and hazardous energy control programs with Maintenance and Engineering, including machine guarding, interlocks, equipment-specific lockout/tagout procedures, training, and periodic inspections.
  • Support compliant waste acceptance and handling practices, including incoming material inspections, segregation, storage controls, management of rejected or nonconforming waste, and required tracking documentation.
  • Partner with Operations and Corporate Compliance to verify required treatment and processing controls, monitoring, validation, and records. Ensure process deviations are escalated and affected materials are managed according to approved procedures before advancing to downstream production.
  • Maintain a facility compliance calendar and inspection-ready records for applicable waste processing, air, wastewater, stormwater, and other environmental requirements. Coordinate permit renewals, monitoring, reporting, and regulatory inspections with Corporate Compliance and designated facility personnel.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and coordinate EHS audits across operating shifts, covering production equipment, waste storage, maintenance activities, housekeeping, docks, and pedestrian and powered industrial truck interactions.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene assessments and exposure evaluations addressing biological hazards, sharps, noise, heat, dust, fumes, and chemicals, as applicable. Work with qualified resources to implement controls and support PPE, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and medical surveillance programs.
  • Integrate EHS review into new equipment installations, process modifications, feedstock changes, production increases, and facility layout changes. Coordinate hazard assessments, permit applicability reviews, procedure updates, and verification of safeguards before startup.
  • Support contractor and maintenance safety through orientation, work coordination, and verification of applicable controls for hazardous energy, hot work, confined spaces, electrical hazards, and work at height.
  • Lead incident, near-miss, and exposure investigations using Human and Organizational Performance principles to identify contributing system conditions. Track corrective and preventive actions through timely completion and effectiveness verification.
  • Develop and conduct role-specific EHS training for production, maintenance, receiving, shipping, supervisory, and temporary personnel. Collaborate with the Training Department to maintain accurate records and verify employee understanding and competency.
  • Maintain facility emergency preparedness and response plans and coordinate training and drills for credible scenarios, including fires, spills, biological exposures, treatment failures, utility interruptions, and severe weather.
  • Facilitate facility safety meetings, employee observations, and practical coaching to strengthen employee participation and identify opportunities for improvement. Maintain EHS data systems, including incident reporting and injury tracking, and communicate performance trends and priorities to facility leadership.
  • Coordinate EHS controls for receiving, shipping, docks, yard traffic, and onsite material movement. Work with designated transportation personnel on shipment-related compliance issues affecting facility operations.
  • Support medical surveillance programs and assist with the enforcement of the drug and alcohol policy.

Basic Requirements:

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, including the ability to work effectively with production employees, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and facility leadership.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow actions through completion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to work regularly in production, processing, maintenance, receiving, and shipping areas while following applicable PPE and site requirements.
  • Ability to interact effectively with state and federal regulatory inspectors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic EHS recordkeeping systems.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
