The posting

We are seeking a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator to join the team in the Carson City/Reno-Sparks area. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced estimator to take ownership of the estimating function, work directly with ownership and project leadership, and play an important role in the company's continued growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the estimating process for heavy civil and public works opportunities from initial bid review through final submission.
  • Review civil plans, specifications, addenda, contract requirements, and bid documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for underground utilities, sewer, roadway, structural concrete, and related civil scopes.
  • Develop complete estimates incorporating labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, production rates, and project-specific conditions.
  • Prepare competitive bids for municipal, government, and other public infrastructure projects.
  • Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, project risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Attend mandatory pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits throughout Northern Nevada and surrounding markets.
  • Manage multiple active estimates and bid deadlines simultaneously.
  • Collaborate directly with ownership and Project Managers on bid strategy, pricing, and project approach.
  • Maintain accurate estimating information and historical cost data.
  • Support the transition of awarded projects from estimating into operations.
  • Help strengthen and improve estimating processes as the company continues to grow.

Must-Haves:

  • 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience.
  • Significant experience estimating public works or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on sewer, water, underground utility, or similar civil estimating experience.
  • Ability to independently build a complete heavy civil estimate from plans and specifications through final bid.
  • Strong quantity takeoff skills.
  • Thorough understanding of civil construction labor, equipment, materials, production, and sequencing.
  • Experience with professional estimating and bidding software.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines without significant oversight.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable attending pre-bid meetings and site walks.

Nice-to-Haves as:

  • Northern Nevada or Northern California heavy civil experience.
  • Municipal or government infrastructure estimating experience.
  • Prevailing wage/public works bidding experience.
  • Roadway or street improvement experience.
  • Structural concrete estimating experience.
  • Experience with HCSS or similar heavy civil estimating platforms.
  • Familiarity with WinBid/BidWin.
  • Bluebeam and advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience working for a larger heavy civil contractor and interest in moving into a more autonomous environment.

Benefits Offered:

  • Base salary of approximately $135,000-$175,000, depending on experience.
  • Year-end bonus opportunity.
  • Company truck.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Family medical coverage through union benefits.
  • Primarily local and regional project exposure.
  • Approximately 20% travel, primarily for pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits.
  • Significant autonomy with limited micromanagement.
  • Direct access to company ownership.
  • Opportunity to become the company's dedicated estimating subject-matter expert.
  • Collaborative, smaller-company environment where individual contributions are highly visible.
  • Opportunity to help shape the estimating function while supporting the company's continued growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
