Dock Foreman_NE-NSC_Thrift Store Department-401JOB SUMMARY: Supervises andparticipates in the operation of the bailer and forklift; assists in sellingrags and shoes; maintains the orderliness of the dock and dumpster area;maintains vehicles; repairs furniture and evaluates appliances in order todetermine repairs needed and if materials can be sold in the Thrift/FamilyStore. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Thisjob description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essentialfunctions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilitiesand tasks other than those stated in this job description. Supervises andparticipates in the bailing and storing of rags; ensures the bailer is operatedin a safe manner at all times. Supervises andparticipates in the handling of materials processed out of the store to bebailed. Evaluatesappliances and other donated materials which have value in order to determineif materials are suitable for repair and can be sold through the Thrift/FamilyStore. Assists inselling rags and shoes to the company offering the highest market value. Ensures that allpremises are secured at the end of the workday and that the premises are alwayskept clear of trash and debris which is constantly accumulating in the salvageprocess. Monitorsdumpster pick-ups to ensure they are timely and to ensure that dumpsters do notoverflow. Operates a forklift and trains/certifies others in the same. Maintainsvehicles and makes arrangements for regular servicing of the same. Performs heavylifting of articles up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Recyclescardboard boxes and cuts cardboard for use with the bailer machine. Stores shoes instorage areas. Collects andempties trash for the warehouse area. Assists inmaintaining the cleanliness of the warehouse area; sweeps floors and cleansbathrooms. Monitors thewarehouse entrances and dock area to deter theft. Repairsfurniture. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in thepick-up of donations from the public as the schedule necessitates. Maintains theneatness and orderliness of the store, warehouse, and dock areas. Performs otherrelated work as required. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Bailer Fork Lift Truck Wheel Cart Hand-Held & Power Tools MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High Schooldiploma or G.E.D. and one yearexperience working in a warehouse environment or any equivalentcombination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge,skills, and abilities. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Certified ForkLift Operator KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to sortand determine the suitability of donated items. Ability toensure the warehouse and dock area and equipment are maintained in a neat,orderly, and secure manner. Ability to drivea heavy-duty truck. Ability tofollow instructions and work independently. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meetattendance requirements. Ability to read,write, and communicate the English language. Physical abilityto lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Ability to liftand carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipmentfrequently. Ability to liftheavy (50-100 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping,standing, and some climbing. Moderatemobility: duties are usually performedby combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent changebasis. Distance of travel is usuallywithin the same building. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work isperformed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomfortsassociated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust,dirt, and the like. Work requiresdriving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physicaldiscomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heator discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
