Position Description

Qualifications

The candidate should be an excellent student and scholar that has completed or is currently pursuing a master’s degree in environmental studies, Polar/Arctic Science, or a related field, with an interest in continuing education and training in battlespace characterization. Prior experience as a Research Assistant is required, along with strong professional writing skills. The candidate must have experience in GIS, remote sensing, and programming in Python, with a strong interest in expanding these skills. Background knowledge in studying the cryosphere and understanding research related to the seasonal dynamics of Arctic vegetation and landscapes is essential.

Description of task

The candidate will support research focused on extreme and littoral environments, particularly the Arctic and other wetlands. Primary duties include imagery analysis and data processing in Python for optical and camera data from sensors, such as PhenoCameras, but the candidate will expand and enhance the project using other sensor types. The candidate will be responsible for deriving specific quantitative measurements, including vegetation, soil, and water indices, as well as analyzing ice presence and state. Field work, presenting work, formal submission of scientific reports and papers, and occasional travel will be required.

Schedule and Location of work

Work will take place between November 2026 through August 2027 but may be extended to future dates depending on interest from NRL and the candidate. Work location and type will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Candidates may work offsite or remote for projects, especially for critical unclassified work before secret clearance is finalized or in extreme circumstances with approval.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
