Job Description:

Techtronic Industries (TTI) Outdoor Products is seeking a Sr. CFD Engineer with extensive experience in aerodynamic system design and optimization using reduced order modeling and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This role will utilize CFD to optimize airflow dynamics for TTI’s next generation leaf blowers, lawn mowers, string trimmers, and other outdoor lawn and garden products. It will involve both steady state analysis for design optimization as well as transient analysis for acoustics and identification of system instabilities.

The Sr. CFD Engineer will be a member of the Advanced Analytical Engineering team and will help drive key decisions related to aerodynamics, rotor design, and aeroacoustics while working closely with Project Engineering teams across the Outdoor Products business unit. This is an interdisciplinary position and requires a high degree of self-motivation. Technical skills and willingness to learn are essential.

ABOUT TTI

Techtronic Industries (TTI) is a world leader in Power Tools, Accessories, Hand Tools, Outdoor Power Equipment, and Floor Care for Do-It-Yourself (DIY), professional and industrial users in the home improvement, repair, maintenance, construction, and infrastructure industries. The Company is committed to accelerating the transformation of these industries through superior environmentally friendly cordless technology. At TTI Anderson, our brands RYOBI and HART are recognized worldwide for their deep heritage and cordless product platforms of superior quality, outstanding performance, safety, productivity, and compelling innovation.

Primary Responsibilities

· Serve as subject matter expert in topics related to CFD including turbulent flow modeling techniques, acoustics, and heat transfer.

· Design axial fan/stator systems to meet performance metrics including flow rate, blow force, pressure ratio, efficiency, stall margin, and noise reduction through use of CFD and reduced order modeling

· Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize product design to meet performance, size, cost, noise, and manufacturability requirements

· Develop and validate analytical models to predict system behaviors across a range of operating conditions for tools such as leaf blowers, lawn mowers, string trimmers, BLDC motors, and other tools with rotary components

· Perform experimental testing of system components and full tools to validate models and refine design methodologies

· Develop design optimization techniques to improve power requirements, noise levels, and performance metrics for consumer products

· Model airflow in complex environments to improve flow patterns, noise reduction, and heat transfer

· Measure various properties and performance metrics to support new and mature product development

· Prepare detailed design documentation and presentations to communicate analysis results, design recommendations, and project status to project stakeholders

· Provide training to junior personnel in analytical tools, interpretation of results, and decision-making processes for successful airflow system design

· Maintain current knowledge of developments in the field to recommend innovations that improve quality and effectiveness of company products

Required Qualifications

· B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.

· 5+ years of hands-on experience with engineering design and analysis of turbomachinery at OEM, supplier, or consumer products company

· Expertise with commercial CFD software (ANSYS Fluent or CFX preferred).

· Must have experience designing rotor/stator systems for turbomachinery with strong background in aerodynamics and fluid mechanics

· Enthusiasm toward simulation and a collaborative work environment

· Willingness and ability to mentor junior engineers

· Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires flexibility and rapid decision making

· Strong written and oral communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with fluid-structure interaction (FSI), multi-physics analysis, discrete element methods (DEM), boundary element methods (BEM), and finite element analysis (FEA) using commercial software
  • Experience with design optimization tools including OptiSLang, adjoint shape optimization, and others
  • Knowledge of noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis and ability to utilize NVH testing to reduce noise and vibration in finished good products
  • Prior work experience with development of consumer products is a big plus

Preferred Software Experience

ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent, CFX, BladeGen, OptiSLang, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, BK Connect, VB Excel, MATLAB, Python, LabView

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
