About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious, commercially driven Business Development Manager – Bancassurance & Alternative Channels to grow Turaco's business in Uganda.

This is a hunter role. We need someone who enjoys identifying new opportunities, opening doors, building relationships with decision-makers and converting conversations into signed partnerships.

The successful candidate will focus on acquiring new partnerships with banks, microfinance institutions, SACCOs, fintechs, digital lenders, telcos and other organisations that can distribute insurance to their customers.

You will own the business development process from identifying prospective partners to negotiating agreements and successfully launching new business.

We want someone who is proactive, well-connected, commercially curious and motivated by results. Someone who understands that great business development requires persistence, creativity and genuine relationships.

At Turaco, we believe in winning our partners' hearts, not just their minds.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. New Business Acquisition & Growth

  • Identify, pursue and secure new distribution partnerships across Uganda's banking, microfinance, SACCO, fintech and alternative-channel sectors.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects with clear opportunities for conversion.
  • Own the entire sales process, from prospecting and first engagement to proposal development, negotiation and contract signing.
  • Deliver against agreed new business acquisition and Gross Written Premium (GWP) targets.
  • Proactively approach senior executives and key decision-makers to introduce Turaco's insurance solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce embedded insurance products into partners' existing customer journeys.

2. Strategic Partnerships & Deal Execution

  • Build strong relationships with prospective partners, understanding their business needs, customer segments and commercial priorities.
  • Develop compelling business cases and proposals that demonstrate the value of partnering with Turaco.
  • Work closely with Product and Underwriting teams to develop relevant, competitive and commercially sustainable insurance solutions.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and coordinate internal approvals to close deals efficiently.
  • Ensure signed partnerships move successfully into implementation and launch.
  • Work closely with Partnership Success teams to ensure a smooth handover after launch.

3. Market Intelligence & Business Development

  • Stay informed about Uganda's insurance market, competitor products, pricing and emerging distribution opportunities.
  • Identify underserved customer segments and new ways to distribute affordable insurance.
  • Build professional networks across banks, financial institutions, fintechs and other potential distribution partners.
  • Share insights from prospective partners to inform product development and commercial strategy.
  • Represent Turaco at relevant industry events, business meetings and networking forums.

4. Sales Performance & Accountability

  • Maintain an accurate and updated sales pipeline, including opportunities, expected revenue, progress and next steps.
  • Provide weekly pipeline updates, deal forecasts and progress against targets.
  • Take personal ownership of moving opportunities forward and resolving obstacles to closing.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of proposals, pricing and commercial agreements.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity and follow-through in all partner engagements.

What Success Looks Like

We will measure success through:

  • New partnerships signed: Consistently acquiring quality banks, MFIs, SACCOs, fintechs and other distribution partners.
  • New business GWP: Delivering against agreed premium targets from newly acquired partnerships.
  • Strong sales pipeline: Maintaining a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Deal conversion: Turning prospects into signed agreements and successfully launched partnerships.
  • Speed of execution: Progressing opportunities efficiently from first engagement to commercial launch.
  • Commercial value: Acquiring partnerships with sustainable economics and strong growth potential.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Insurance or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant business development or B2B sales experience, preferably within insurance, banking, fintech or financial services.
  • Proven track record of acquiring new corporate clients, institutional customers or strategic distribution partners.
  • Good understanding of Uganda's banking, microfinance, SACCO or alternative distribution landscape.
  • Strong networking, negotiation, presentation and closing skills.
  • Confidence engaging senior executives and key decision-makers.
  • Self-driven, organised and comfortable working with ambitious commercial targets.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Insurance industry qualifications or certifications are an added advantage.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

We're looking for someone who loves winning new business.

You enjoy meeting new people, opening doors and turning opportunities into lasting commercial relationships. You are confident approaching senior executives and persistent enough to follow an opportunity through to closure.

You don't wait for business to come to you. You go out and find it.

You understand your market, know how to build trust and can turn a partner's business challenge into a compelling commercial proposition.

You are hungry to succeed, comfortable being measured on results and excited about helping more people access affordable insurance.

Most importantly, you believe that good business is built on trust, genuine care and delivering what you promise.

Our Company Culture

At Turaco, our culture is guided by three core values:

  1. Push boundaries: Challenge conventional thinking and find better ways to serve customers.
  2. Work with excellence: Take ownership, deliver on commitments and continuously improve.
  3. Profound respect for the individual: Treat colleagues, partners and customers with dignity, empathy and care.

We are committed to building diverse, inclusive teams where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.

Total Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary matched to experience, performance-based incentives, stock options, pension and healthcare, alongside an opportunity to contribute to one of Africa's growing insurtech companies.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
