Job Description

The Head of Fund Accounting - Public Funds is a senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, service quality, control environment and modernization of fund accounting supporting Public Funds, including registered funds, multiple series trusts, ETFs, UCITS and other registered fund structures. The role oversees accurate and timely books and records, portfolio and class valuation, reconciliations and NAV production while building a scalable, automated and consistently controlled operating model that supports growth and increasing product complexity.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership and client delivery: Lead the Public Funds fund accounting organization; set clear standards for accuracy, timeliness, service and accountability; serve as senior escalation point for significant accounting, valuation and NAV matters.

• NAV, accounting and controls: Oversee the end-to-end daily accounting and valuation cycle, including portfolio activity, cash, trades, positions, capital stock, income, expenses, accruals and corporate actions. Maintain strong review, approval, exception management and escalation practices.

• Valuation and product expertise: Provide governance over security pricing, valuation exceptions and complex investments. Ensure sufficient expertise across mutual funds, ETFs, derivatives, complex fixed income, multi-currency activity and other registered investment products.

• Transformation and technology: Partner with Technology, Transformation and Shared Services to increase straight-through processing, automate reconciliations and trade validation, improve data and control-center capabilities, and reduce manual processing and unnecessary handoffs.

• Operating model and scalability: Standardize processes, establish specialist capabilities where appropriate, and determine which activities can be centralized or migrated to shared-service teams without weakening controls or client service. Establish metrics for quality, productivity, exceptions and control performance.

• Risk and governance: Embed a strong risk culture; lead root-cause analysis and sustainable remediation for accounting errors, NAV-impacting events and control gaps; partner with Risk, Compliance, Audit, Tax, Fund Administration, Transfer Agency, Custody and Regulatory Reporting.

• Growth and talent: Ensure fund accounting readiness for new clients, conversions, fund launches and product expansion. Build a high-performing leadership team, strengthen succession and technical career paths, and develop the next generation of fund accounting leaders.

Basic Qualifications - Management/supervisory experience - 12 or more years of banking or other relevant experience in alternative investments industry

Experience and Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in fund accounting, investment accounting, asset servicing or fund administration within a large financial institution, asset manager or third-party administrator.

• Deep knowledge of NAV production, portfolio accounting, valuation, reconciliations, corporate actions, investment income, expenses, accruals and investment books and records.

• Experience supporting registered products, including mutual funds, ETFs and multiple series trusts; familiarity with UCITS and complex securities is beneficial.

• Demonstrated success leading large operating teams through growth, control enhancement, automation, process standardization or operating-model transformation.

• Experience with enterprise fund accounting platforms; knowledge of BNY Eagle Accounting/Eagle STAR is advantageous.

• Strong executive communication, client leadership, change management and cross-functional partnership capabilities.

Role Mandate: Run Fund Accounting with discipline today while redefining how the function operates for the future: more scalable, automated, data-enabled and controlled.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
